duck boat trailer bunk carpet for a wooden boat...

I've seen reports of slicks trashing glass over wood hulls (sand getting in there and the low friction coefficient of the plastic allows movement of the hull on the bunk when trailering).

duck boat trailer bunk carpet for a wooden boat...

You describe they way they say to do it in their materials, so that is what I'd do. I like all the padding I can get, I'm trailering on a lot of rough gravel and a lot of small gravel and sand gets on everything (and potentially between the bunk and boat). My current bunk boards gap a little bit...

    2025 Devlin Snow Goose Thread

If you had slapped that floor in without hatches you would have been done in a day! You have a really complex build and a lot of great features planned, they are going to go slow. That is one reason I've said that I wouldn't build a boat that size/complexity again with plywood and would use...

    IN Reach or PLB

I've used sat text via verizon and an iphone (which is apparently globalstar sat) a lot this summer. It works fine, but is clunky. I don't need it to be more seamless for what I've used it for, I wouldn't pay extra for better at this point (noting that a PLB is used for immediate communication)...

duck boat trailer bunk carpet for a wooden boat...

This is from the guys that Ed linked that seem to sell the thickest carpet available, so maybe a pad and I'll try their thickest carpet. I could see that the pad might be a step in the wrong direction as far as longevity if there is any movement because of it. They get pretty darn good amazon...

This system looks pretty appealing. I think I'll give it a try.

duck boat trailer bunk carpet for a wooden boat...

They offer a "forever" quality, don't know how great it is, but it sure looks nicer than even the nicest outdoor carpet. Interesting that they also offer a bunk pad/foam cushion to go under the carpet to add cushion.

duck boat trailer bunk carpet for a wooden boat...

I have used very nice indoor outdoor carpet several times and it always fails. Maybe I use my stuff more or harder than you do or I'm less lucky. I don't know, but I'm looking for something better. Slicks on a glass over wood boat plus gravel roads is a recipe to destroy a painted glass over...

That looks great! I know your winter weather and mine are not the same, but you are getting really nice epoxy finish for working in the winter.

duck boat trailer bunk carpet for a wooden boat...

I've had a bunch of iterations on my trailers and I'm still looking for something better for bunk carpet (yes, it does have to be carpet, no slicks, no firehose, etc...). Does anyone have a suggestion of a great (long lasting and thick) material? I've been using a high quality outdoor carpet...

For duck hunting, I keep my PLB in a pocket of my float coat, so it is always on me

    Glen-L Sneakboat vs Devlin Broadbill

I'm just glad that I hit the sweet spot with the snowgoose when I built and it served so well as a compromise boat for ducks and fishing and general transport. Back when I was young and poor (and more frugal), springing for that 40 hp seemed like quite a leap, I'm so glad I didn't go with a...

    Anchor rode upgrades...

Thanks, I've done a fair bit of 3 strand and done quite a bit of single braid (amsteel), but I hadn't done much with double braid. Good thing to do on a cold day to put off more important things that are less fun.

We are on Starlink here in Wyoming since there are no other options, when my son is home we often at 12+ devices attached. I've been really impressed. We have an iridium sat phone that we used to use, but with the PLB and satellite texting, we haven't used it lately. Only a matter of time for...

    Anchor rode upgrades...

Thanks, I wanted to give it a little bit of work to let the outer and core equilibrate before committing to whip it. I do like whipping, so I'll probably do it at some point. I need to make a painter and stern lines, so probably then. Seems like pretty nice double braid.

Quick update... Ordered OLIVE, but got an email from the gal that I had talked to about colors and she said the olive was more of a straight up green in this batch. She sent pics of their earth tone colors unsolicited and I went with their "gold", which when it came on the spool from the...

Depending on the company a lot of cell phones have it now, text, not voice. We switched to iphones on Verizon because of the ability to text using satellite. We used it a ton this summer in the mountains, It works pretty well considering.
