    Canvasback

Don't know what caused the change but we started getting a lot more cans in the central valley of CA a few years ago. They are almost a given on my club all through November. Many days it would be no problem to shoot 15 of them/person. I have a cool video from the blind, is there a way to...

    Spoon City

It's funny how everyone wants what they don't have. Those things are a dime a dozen out here. It's no big deal to shoot 7 of them like your pretty one. But people here go crazy for a blue wing teal! The grass is always greener somewhere else.

Tried an experiment, now have a question

Dani, As said above, potatoes like cool weather. If I was you, I'd probably dig the whole plant now. Or at least carefully dig on one side of the plant (starting 12" out). Slowly dig closer to the plant until you start exposing potatoes. If they look like they are full grown or if you see...

Tried an experiment, now have a question

Dani, it somewhat depends on the the soil type. The better drained the soil, the longer you can leave them in it. I did a little more checking and found out that the best time to dig is as soon as the plants start to yellow and wilt. In some soils you can leave them longer but there is really...

I'm going to get out there this year!!

Jack, I have a good friend who is in the same situation as you. I shared your post with him. Here is his reply, hope it helps. "If you want to add something about your hunting buddy who lost his leg, he has found that neoprene stockingfoot waders work really well. He unrolls them inside out...

Tried an experiment, now have a question

Nice taters. I don't know anything about storing them but do know about growing them. Sounded like you planted them whole? Next time, cut them into pieces, leaving one eye on each piece and then plant them, you can get many plants out of each potato. The plants are supposed to yellow and die...

NDR HOW TO KILL YOUNG TREE SAPLINGS

Drilling a couple holes and filling them with Roundup works very well. One other point, trees and other tough weeds like Bermuda are much easier to kill in the fall as plants are pulling nutrients down into the roots for the winter than in the spring when they are pushing nutrients out for new...

Time for change? (Terribly long winded)

Eric, not sure I followed who owned all the land but is there any way you can orchestrate a change in farmers to alleviate the problem? If he is just a renter, go to the owner and get him kicked out!

Opinion post:what age do you take kids to introduce them to take game with firearm?

Don't wait . . . . I took my daughter on her first dove hunt at 14mo, first pheasant hunt at 16 mo, and first goose hunt at 18 mo. They were short trips with plenty of snacks and comforts. Dove hunt was for 30 minutes, played with the dog, shot 2 doves, let her hold the dead birds, and went...

    Last Saturday

Wow, tough day/season. One of these days you're going to have to take me up on my offer to come hunt sunny CA. Dad and I shot 11 teal, 2 gadwall, and a pintail by 8:30. Probably could have done it again today but gave the birds a free pass today.

    Fall 2016 trip....

What a neat trip! You should have let me know you were coming to CA. You were within 5 miles of me when you went up to the Sierras. Could have taken you out to my club for a hunt, or on a dove hunt.
