    Sunfish Hull

I bought the boat from Red Oster in Sayville about 10 years ago. I believe he said that the boat originally had a shorter bow but someone added onto it at some point.

    Sunfish Hull

Joe, My glass over plywood boat was built on LI in the 70's. Do you happen to know anything about it?

Joe, Here's a post on the topic from another forum. There are several pictures of the process. http://www.duckhuntingchat.com/...ilit=sunfish#p886192

    Teens and Jobs and Money...

You're doing the right thing Eric. It's good for kids to get some work experience. Ben is 17 and in his third summer working in construction full time. He's even picked up some other part time work in the evenings. Ethan is 15 and just started working this summer, mowing lawn for the...

    lead melting

I like the sheet lead for weighting decoys. I cut square or rectangular pieces with a tin snip until I get the amount of weight I need. Since it's all a consistent thickness, it is then easy to determine how big (volume) of a hole I have to make in the keel to hold it all. The sheet lead I...

NY, Long Island zone 2015-16 season dates.

Joe: I brine brant and sea ducks for 3 days. Then I grind them and make chili or tacos. Everyone that has tried it has liked it. All of the brant we’ve gotten have come from the Merrick-Bellmore-Wantagh area.

    Turkeys....a true love hate relationship

Congrats on the nice tom Dani! Great story of pesistence. I like the lush green scenery in your pictures. We are still melting a little snow. It'll be a while before things look nice and green up here.

    Spring Beaver Trapping

Thanks Steve. Being that I'm new, I'm not sure what I will mainly get into. Populations of each seem to vary from spot to spot. This year I caught one coyote and one grey. Perhaps the 550's would be a good middle of the road. If I make it to the convention I'll be sure to look you up.

    Spring Beaver Trapping

Steve, I haven't even thought about it yet. Our summers get so chock full of stuff, I'll have to see. Are you going to be there? I tried some coyote trapping this past fall, and had bought three 650's and three KB's. I'd like to get into the canines more this coming fall , including some...

    Spring Beaver Trapping

The only thing with the 750's is you've got to be careful when setting them. With no free jaw you've got to put your hand between the jaws to get the pan set. Not too hard on firm ground, but more challenging when standing in the water. I usually try to set them and place them by the water...

    Spring Beaver Trapping

7.25 inches is the maximum for water in NY. Teeth are not allowed. I've got a couple of CDR's and they are within 7.25". In fact, I've heard that they are now made in NY. I was impressed with the holding power of my MB-750's when one of them held a beaver by the last 2 or 3 inches of it's...

    Spring Beaver Trapping

Sorry that you weren't able to get out this year. Hope you have more time next season. CDR's are good traps too, definitely bring them to NY for beaver.

    Spring Beaver Trapping

RL: I do see a fair amount of red rump in the spring. However, it hasn’t seemed to hurt the prices that much. I worry more about them biting each other in the spring, and I usually see more of that in April. Most seasons I am pretty much done by now. This spring and last spring were late ones.

    Spring Beaver Trapping

Pete: I sell the better grades of castor. But I do save the smaller castors and grind them up from time to time, mixing them with some glycerine and a couple drops of poplar bud oil. I grind them in a mini food processer. This home concoction is just used as a change-up, I usually use Dobbins...

    Spring Beaver Trapping

The weather was nice yesterday so I took Conall out to check the beaver set I had in. My favorite set is a castor mound set. Castor mound sets take advantage of beavers’ territorial nature and the way they mark their territory with a mound of mud and vegetation on the bank, they then deposit...

    Fur shed picture.

Nice picture Mike! A lot of work went into that catch. I just sold some fur at NAFA last week. Beaver and muskrat prices were about half of what they were last year. In the future I probably won’t start trapping beaver until December, that should help with the grades. However, as Steve...

    insulate new shop??

We built our pole barn in 2008 and I insulated the ceiling and front wall by the overhead doors right away. I used rolls of 6" thick fiberglass, doubling it up in spots above the ceiling. This is better than my house too, which has 4" framing. Since then I've been chipping away at the other 3...
