    Hooded Merganser Paint Scheme

Hey folks! I'm about to paint a pair of hooded mergansers and was wondering if any of you have a paint scheme for the hen? I've seen some with a gray base and other with a brown base. Any ideas? I use Traditions acrylic paints. Grace and peace, David

    Bandsaw Blade Recommendations

I'm cutting out basswood heads on an old Delta 14" bandsaw (93.5" blade length) and wanted to know what blades some of you use. I walked into Woodcraft yesterday and was overwhelmed by the choices out there. Manufacturer of blade, width, and teeth per inch would be greatly appreciated. Thanks...

    Decoy carvers, particularly Alabama...

I'm in Huntsville and would be interested in some cork and head blocks. I have a buddy who might be interested in the tools as well. Please drop me a line if these items are still available. Grace and peace, David

    Dust Collection Systems

Thanks for the advice and for the photos. I'm a visual learner, so a picture is worth a thousand words. I went with a Rikon single stage collector and am thinking an air exchanger is in my future as well. My band saw is an old Delta, so thanks for that pic. Did you have to make that fitting...

    Dust Collection Systems

Hey folks! I wanted to know what dust collectors ya'll are using out there. I have a tiny shop, so space matters. I'll be using it mostly for power carving and band saw work. Thanks! David

Decoy Bag Question for Small Boats

Hey folks! I hunt out of a Devlin Broadbill and was wondering what decoy bags you small boat hunters use. I'd be hauling them on the bow of my boat 'cause my cockpit is chock full of my legs, my dog, and all of my other gear. Any suggestions? BTW, all of my plastic dekes are Texas rigged.

    First full decoy

Nice looking decoy! Are you sure this is your first? I've been carving for the past five years and just finished my first set of woodies. Oddly enough, the hen gave me more painting fits than the drake! Keep up the good work! Grace and peace, David

    Zack Taylor Oarlocks Question

Does anyone out there have a scanned copy of Zack Taylor's oarlock in his book "Successful Waterfowling" that they could share with me? I had a copy of his book and loaned it out to someone (I just can't remember who)! Any other oarlock design would be helpful too! Grace and peace, David

July -- What's new on your workbench?

Since I haven't posted on this thread in a long time, I'll be the first to start off July's "What's new on your workbench?" Here are two woodies out of six that I just finished up. They were my first attempt at wood ducks and it took FOREVER to get the side pocket color to my satisfaction on...

    Question on Repairing a Crack

My Devlin Broadbill has developed a crack where the decking meets the transom panel. I was thinking about injecting the crack with either pure epoxy or a mixture of epoxy and wood filler. Any suggestions on how to best repair? Thanks, David Palmer [inline crack1.jpg]

    Banded RedZone Waders

I bought a pair of the Banded insulated waders last year and loved them! They had a stitching issue on the knee (cosmetic only) but it has been fixed for this year. Their customer service is top notch, and I'm itching to put my new pair on for this year. Banded likes to use a lot of grey...

    Jackson County WMAs

Just heard that the north and south ends of Swan Creek were okay and that other areas, like Pie Cut, were replanted. However, the Fingers were lost and will probably not be replanted. Too bad ... I like to watch the ducks work there in the evenings even though I dont hunt Swan Creek personally.

    North Alabama Broadbill Redux

Hey folks! After three seasons of using the Broadbill on the Mighty Tennessee, I'm thinking about making a few cosmetic changes to the boat. But before I progress any further, I thought I'd ask for any comments you may have on my ideas. First, I've really enjoyed using the Broadbill as a...

    APRIL What's on Your Workbench

My two nephews both took their first ducks this past season. The oldest shot a mallard drake as it and a susie decoyed in to the pond. The youngest shot a redhead drake on Youth Days. It came in with what seemed like a million other redheads. Needless to say, each boy was beside himself on...
