Should a spray shield have snaps that attach all the way to the oar locks or do the snaps end by the forward cockpit coaming and then tied to eyes on the oar locks?
First try at sewing a spray shield for the widgeon.

Is there a preferred wood grain orientation for oar locks. I am building mine out of near quartersawn white oak. Is the grain better parallel to the boat or vertical.
A hairline crack in the oarlock has me wondering.
