    My Estuary grassed up

An easy grass mat cover for an outboard can be made by folding the mat in half and zip-tying along the top edge to make what might be called 1/2 of an envelope. Easy to open and lay on the motor and pulls right off when you need to go ... I roll the top of the mat under when adding zip ties so...

Surface Drive or Not (Help Please!)

Good comparison - from a performance perspective that's your choice. Your boat may be a little slower since it's not a boat designed for a surface drive. I have a surface drive just so I don't have to worry about low water, obstructions, or freezing water in an outboard.

Surface Drive or Not (Help Please!)

Allot depends on how much you put in the boat - number of persons and gear. It should run well empty or with a light load but if you haul allot of gear and people you may not be pleased with it.

Small lightweight to run only GPS

Ditto what Carl said. Just watch the amp-hour (AH) rating to get the most bang for the buck. I use something like this on my kayak to power a fish finder/GPS combo and it works fine...

    More safety worries

79 years old, submerged up to his neck for 33 hours. That's one tough old dude. Doesn't excuse hunting alone or trying to walk in the mud at that age. I still hunt alone but if it isn't a sand bottom I'm staying in the boat.

    Welded sneak box

Looks like a mix of aluminum and wood (?)- aluminum hull with wood attachments. Is the deck aluminum? What are the dimensions? Any idea what the horsepower rating would be? Planing hull? Thanks, Randy.

    Gator Glide??

I just finished applying Gator Glide to my 1860. No use yet but it applied well and seems like it will perform as advertised. My boat was LOADED with barnacles and zebra mussels so I stripped it to bare aluminum. Don't do that if you still have paint. Would have been much easier to sand with...

Back to the painted vs. covered fuel tank....

Warden told me last year that open gas tanks don't require a fire extinguisher ... But, he said the idea is that if you have a fire you can unhook the tank and throw it overboard to save the boat and passengers. He asked - you going to do that? I said - nope, that's why I bring my son ... LoL...

NVM - search function provided helpful results. New battery powered LED lights with surface mount bases look like the ticket.

    South Bay Navigation Lights

I want to install some navigation lights and was planning a small 12v battery and built-in bases/lights. Curious what else you guys have installed before I cut into the hull. Thanks!

    Battery help

It's made for a motorcycle which I would not expect to charge much differently than a boat motor. Worth a call though, especially at the price you'll be paying.
