    Best Value In Cork Decoys . . . . . ?

Tim's are great, and he is my next door neighbor. He carves a decoy for my son's birthday every year. Not too many 12 year olds will have a handmade spread for their first day on the marsh.

    Duck Hunting Memories?

I was hunting once from a shore blind, and directly from over head (must have been in a tree) came a hawk nosediving toward my decoys. I had a spread that included: blue bills, canvasbacks, mallards, and for all of you that turn your nose up to it: Coots. And, wouldn't you know, the hawk...

    FROZEN HANDS

most guys I know around NW PA use the orange or blue gloves as well. specifically for non-shooting activities. Have a small towel for drying hands. I am a little strange in that I dont wear gloves why waiting for ducks, I either put my bare hands in pockets or a handwarmer with the large...

1st for me - what about you?

Yes, I was tortured by drake Goldeneyes for years, they never seemed to fully commit into the decoys. In the past I had even knocked down a couple only to see them dive and resurface a hundred yards away. This year I had my first opportunity on a drake canvasback and nailed it (they never...

    Cooking in the boat blind?

Blind Burgers! with pepper jack cheese. We have done the breakfast samiches as well, love soups warmed up in the blind, and saugage with peppers and onions.

    Any Suggestions for Lady's shotgun?

My wife wants to take up duck hunting with me next year. I have several shotguns, but as I am 6'4" and she is 5'4", I am pretty sure that my Benelli will not fit right for her. I think I would prefer to get her an o/u 20 gauge, I have an old Fox Savage sxs, but the butt cap is slippery and I...

    decoy sled question

Excuse my ignorance, i have done a search for constructing decoy sleds, and while I began making them with 15 deg cut on the boards in between the silo's it struck me to ask why can't i just make the two boards the same size? What is the purpose of the angle?

    Dove Hunting Question

From our Pa migratory brochure: Nontoxic Shot, Shot Size: NONTOXIC SHOT must be used while hunting ducks, geese and/or coots in Pennsylvania; the possession of lead shot while hunting ducks, geese and/or coots is unlawful. i read this as lead is ok for doves as it does not specifically...

    Waterproofing material

I was intriqued by the product as well, i do not have first hand knowledge, but dug into their website and found that it is not recommended for submerged items because it relies on a layer of air to form the "superhydrophobic coating" as far as a coating for the firepoles, i think it would be...

    NDR - Chicken coops?

Here is one that my father made. He has 8 chickens, enough eggs to keep him and the neighbors stocked. There was an egg farm near my college, and they had a sign out front that read, "Durisko Eggs, 27,534 happy employees" I got a kick out of that sign everytime I drove by.

    The "good" wife!

My wife is unique in that she will refuse teal meat, but will take all the bufflehead I can shoot. For a diver hunter like me, that is fantastic.

    Just a reminder

I will be taking my 7 year old after her dance class. When I told her that we will be going to vote, she informed me that she will have already voted with her second grade class.

    Hen Oldsquaw

My father has a hen oldsquaw (long-tailed duck for those who are PC) that he will be receiving from the taxidermist soon, as an addition to that I would like to carve out a decoy as well. The problem i am encountering is finding good photos of decoys. If anyone of you could provide me with a...

    NDR Assateague Island

not to hijack the thread, but I am going to Chinco for a hunt in December, and I was trying to see if the Refuge museum is still open. After a google search the number listed has been disconnected. Is the museum still there?

Another of my redneck pursuits. NDR

PA stocks trout heavily, I have helped out through the years emptying buckets into streams. My father still loves trout fishing and his passion is pursuing native brook trout, but you really have to sweat to find them. Some of the prettiest areas of PA are trout streams in Potter County and...

Another of my redneck pursuits. NDR

The two biggest days in a PA sportsman's year is opening day of trout and opening day of deer, after opening day the crowd thins dramatically. I remember several trout opening days on French Creek that were shoulder to shoulder, but I still thank my dad for taking me.
