    Canoe question

If you aren't going to use a motor you will find that a square end canoe will not paddle well. The turbulence behind the square end seems to almost pull you back. Found that out the hard way.

    Widgeon BBSB build question

Should be correct if you are following the plan. Built one decades ago. My bow block was two piece with a thru bolt. Doesn't look like you need one. My mistake at the time was I modified the bow block to fit the length of the sides boards. Should have cut the sides to fit the bow block...

    Wood Duck house

Many years ago Ohio had round metal boxes. They were made at the state prison in Columbus, if I remember correctly. The cost got too high and they discontinued making them. Switched to reject f-glass tubes, that they got free. Ohio doesn't do anything now. Bought in to the thinking...

Bill to Amend Pittman Robertson Act (PRA)

And with the push toward green energy, do you see money from oil / gas leases increasing. Any time government starts messing with funding I get a knot in my stomach

    Nissan 3.5 hp has issues!

Had a similar issue with my 3.5. Turns out the vent on the fuel cap wasn't venting. Would run then suddenly quit. I ended up punching a small hole in the cap gasket.

    Speaking of old boats

The brackets you refer to are for forward facing oarlocks. Had a chance to use a Winous boat with a set many, many moons ago. Takes a little getting use to, but a lot of fun and really practical, when you think about it.

    Canada goose unusual? markings

A white ring around the base of the neck is a characteristic of giant canadas. It was obvious but not to the degree of a drake malard.

    Nissan 3.5 hp

I'll second the composite prop problem. Mine didn't shear the pin cleanly. It bent over and cut a groove on the inside of the hub, which made it nearly impossible to remove the prop. I fought with it in the dark and finally gave up and poled home. Good to know that a metal one is...

Marine Plywood source in Ohio and Michigan.

Homestead hardwood in Vickery has marine Plywood. Vickery is at the SR 250 of the turnpike, south of Sandusky. I don't have any personal experience with them but it would be worth checking out. www.marine-plywood.us

    Broken shear pin extraction tips?

Have the same motor, only a Nissan. It had brass shear pins, and I had the same trouble. Instead of shearing off cleanly it bends the pin over slightly then breaks. Mine has a composite prop and once the pin spun a groove in the inside of the hub of the prop. There was no way to get the...

What the heck is that stuff?

Never heard about sponge being edible, but I guess there's no reason that it couldn't be. It would help if it looked more like fat, which it sure does not. I know I would probably eat it before the stuff that crazy guy on the Travel Channel goes around the world eating.

What the heck is that stuff?

I think it's called the sponge. I was told it's an accumulation of fat that the gobbler uses for energy during breeding season. Eating isn't the highest priority in the spring, kind of like when we were young and in love.

    Wheeler Wildlife Refuge Anniversary

Have a copy of the 08 waterfowl status report. They show breeding population of 92,300 and a total spring population of 110,400. Ohio has tried to limit their take of SJBP birds with zones. They are beginning to feel that the total take of SJBP birds is more widespead than previously...
