13 Dead Bald Eagles

This is a very disturbing situation. I'm sure that many on duckboats are interested as to how and why? We shall have to await the facts. Just wondered if anyone else had read about it.

Bald eagles kill off game birds. Could be that the farmer was tired of the eagles picking off quail, rabbit, Pheasant.... Who knows. Maybe the land owner in just an AH.

I'm betting on misapplied pesticide or rodenticide or someone dosed a carcass for predator control.

That wouldn't surprise me. Probably someone pouring one of the very illegal fly bait recipes on a carcass to kill coyotes or coons. Nasty stuff that shouldn't be used.
It is shocking how nonchalantly some people recommend it.

That's too bad, but there are many, many more humans beings that are killed each day which is more concerning to me.

Bald eagles kill off game birds.
Really? Which game birds, other than occasional ducks and coots, are a primary food source for Bald Eagles? I haven't found any literature that supports upland game birds comprise more than a minor incidental percentage of Bald Eagle diets, and then its most likely stealing from other raptors more adapt at taking birds.

I am no scientist but have witnessed a few thing in nature before. I did see bald eagles dive bombing resting Snow Geese on the river.
I also see other types of eagles (Goldens) picking off Pheasant, Chuckar and Huns off of game preserves.
So maybe I have taken too broad of a stroke but I have definitely seen Bald Eagles targeting waterfowl and Golden Eagles targeting game birds.

I kill off game birds. I hope no one poisons me.

In all seriousness, there is some debate locally in Maine that the growing eagle population may be having a detrimental effect on great blue heron rookeries through predation.

My local landfill attracts a ton of gulls--enough to be a birdwatching hotspot with a bunch of rare species. The gulls--and also turkeys--attract eagles, and I have definitely watched them nail both flying and and sitting gulls. It was COOL to watch.

Kill em all.......and kill every other predator while we're at it......sonsabitches are stealing all our "chickens"....opps I mean released game birds.....and they don't have to buy a license to do it........those birds, ALL OF EM, are MINE....paid for in license fee's......time to give the dam freeloaders the boot if you ask me.......

Yea.......who's with me......
