20 shells ????

Talk to a skeet range that's had to do lead abatement and you'll understand why many of them are switching to steel shot only.

That's interesting Carl. The shotgun range where I shoot banned steel because somebody picks up the lead and pays them for it.. Steel target loads are a no-no. That must be a state issue.

Five years ago I attended a DU meeting at a sportsman club in our area. As I looked out the windows at the skeet and trap ranges. I saw that large scale excavation was going on, with lots of equipment. When I asked one of the club members about it ,he told me the company was paying the club for the reclaimed lead, and it was a hefty sum. It was the first time it had been done and the club has a long history.

Certainly all valid points Jeff IF they are coming from people and institutions that have a track record of environmental vigilance. If however, the person or organization has a history of participating in anti-gun reform and now packages their cause as "tree-hugging".......then you know where it's coming from and where it's heading.
I'm not a conspiracy theorist, paranoid, or a pessimist. Living on Long Island is ground zero for extraordinary restrictions that many people out on the prairie may not be aware of (not saying you) and it's not about "seeing it coming" it's here!

Agreed. And there is no shortage of dumb ideas about guns, ammo, and hunting. Just like there is no shortage or dumb ideas about most issues. I forget who said it, but I have always loved this: "To every complex, difficult, and serious problem, there is a simple, cheap, easy-to-understand and wrong solution."

(NDR) Been fighting the good fight since 1970 in California. My family has been here since 1849. It started with the saturday nite special. Then in 1982 it was a ban on all handguns beat that in a landslide also. I'm a life member in the N.R.A. C.R.P.A and the C.D.A. But now california is a total insane asylum the laughing stock of the U.S.A. I will say this there are some solid people left in california. My family has been here since 1849 all from the southeast. But were outnumbered a 1000 to 0ne at the polls. In 2018 instead of voting for gun rights the the idiots voted to legalize MARIJUANA. Still have kin in texas north and south carolina etc. I AIN'T RUNNIN.

The world is beyond crazy these day! New York legislature has lost its marbles regarding gun control and anti hunting. SAFE ACT, SAFE ACT II, red flag laws, they are talking about insurance to own a gun, raising the age to 21. Goes on and on. Now they want to prohibit gun dog field trials, eliminate the pheasant stocking program, and put an end to fishing and hunting tournaments. We sportsmen and women need to organize and be more active in advocating for our rights!

This is not new , it all started in 1968 an will keeping getting worse until we stop voting these anti freedom jerks in office. There is only one law regarding firearms, The 2 Amendment.

Zane, I'm in NY as well. Yes, NY gun laws (and sporting laws) have gotten ridiculous, and continue to head in that direction each year. I've been following all of these proposed bills regarding tournaments, field trials, etc. While they have gotten a lot of publicity, which is good, they are extremely unlikely to go anywhere. It's easy to propose a bill, but the passage of it is an entirely different matter. I'm not concerned about these present proposed bills, and I expect them to die out with little fanfare.

I do absolutely agree that we all need to do more to preserve our sporting culture. Simply joining the NRA and/or local gun club is not enough.

All this talk of gun control makes me happy to live in South Dakota where ammo is plenty, you can open or conceal carry with no permit, and you are welcome to hunt any ditches for pheasants with a fully loaded shotgun riding passenger as you cruise the gravel.
