2016 LIDCA February Decoy Show (Long Island,NY)

When is it Pete? I'm switching from my weekend shift at work to a five day week afternoon shift the first or second week of april so I don't know how that's all going down yet.

Phil~

In the Wheeler Class, Ed Gagne had a sweet pair of Lessers (which we Long Islanders call "baby bluebills"). His hen had her wing dropped. Great birds!

One BIG change we know we need to make for Year 2 will be to arrange the tables so everyone can get close to every bird. (Because we had way more birds than anticipated, we were dragging out extra tables post haste). Undoubtedly, some birds got less attention than they should have from our voters.

Next year we may also need to impose an Eager Rule: Wash those birds! (Thanks very much for participating - maybe we'll see you in person next year.)

All the best,

SJS

Pat~

Thanks for sending your classic Broadbill - a sweet bird, indeed!

Although I did not get a photo of it on my quick go-round, we certainly got a nice portrait of it along with the other 107 entries. It'll be a while before they are posted, though.

All the best,

SJS

Phil

Phil thats funny, I put one of my burnt corks in too. After the 4 th try of trying to get the mud off I said "Fuggetaboutit"

Steve ... You are correct that the tables were way crowded. It was a pleasant surprise that there were over a 100 entries. I was concerned with it being first year that there wouldn't be enough to make it interesting. My compliments to you and Craig for all the work that you did on this. I predict this will get bigger each year.

Joe

Steve - I thought I recognized a broadbill I did. That drake in the vintage style I donated to the club and gave to Tim Sieger at the St. Charles show. It was my take on a South Bay Broadbill. The head was carved from a pattern taken from Eugene Connett's book. Pat

Does anyone know who carved the hen scaup that is slightly back and to the right of the George Rigby hen in the photo the mentions Tom Rowe's scaup pair?

Good morning, RL~

I am not sure - but am anxious to get the CD from our photographer - Ray Geminski - any day now. Once I have that in hand, I will be posting all 107 decoys with their carver's names and locations.

All the best,

SJS

Paul Dobrosky, you make a great bluebill decoy! Beautiful lines, great paint work, and nice patina on that bird to soften its overall appearance.
