Calling all carvers, duck hunters or water fowling enthusiasts......

Last year several of us here in Central IL took a page from the folks in MI and held our version of a Float Fest. We had a great time and have decided to do it again this year on August 15th from noon till dark.

Whats a float fest? Well simply put, you bring a decoy or two that you have recently acquired or carved that you want to put in the pool. Then you just sit around the deck and talk decoys, carving, hunting or any other topic about water fowling with everyone there.

You don't need to be a carver, heck, you don't even need to bring a decoy. Just bring a lawn chair, your favorite libation, a side dish to share and have fun. Pat Gregory and I will supply the duck wraps and goose brats.

When - August 15th 2015, noon till dark
Where - 100 W. Charles, McLean, Illinois (2 hrs south of Chicago, 2 hrs north of St Louis on Interstate 55)
Bring - Lawn Chair, side dish, a decoy or two and lots of stories

Hope to see you there! feel; free to PM if you have any questions.

Can't wait Dave! We appreciate you hosting it!! Wild game, hand-carved decoys and hunting stories, doesn't get any better than that! Can't wait to see what everybody carved this year... I plan to showcase additions to this year's Mud Lake Rig... A little bath in chlorinated water before the mud would be good... Pat

Less than week to Float Fest here in Central Illinois and final preps are in full swing.
Once again I would like to extend an invite to any one who would like to share in the magnificence that is Water Fowling with us.

Man I would love to be in on something like that. Nobody does these kind of things down here in Louisiana. If it wasn't so far I sure would go.

Clinton,

We got the idea from the folks in Michigan and just decided to do it ourselves last year. It is simple to put together and all you really need is a pond or pool to float the blocks in. Other than that it is just a matter of picking a date and getting the word out to other like minded folks in your area.
Not sure where in LA you reside but you are welcome to join us.

Dave

Thanks for the invite. I live in northwest Louisiana on the number 1 bass lake in the country. I might try to get something going like that around here.

Andy,

There are a few floating around out there (no pun intended). I was so busy at the grill I completely forgot to grab my camera.
Gary L put a outstanding Merg in the pool, Bill B floated an outstanding Red Head hen. Of course Pat G brought some his latest work, most notable was a Dusharm style which was not a Can. Hope Pat posts a photo of that one! There were Read Heads, Scaup, Spoonies and Woodies joining the other decoys.
One of the highlights was the approximate 25 pounds of wraps that were consumed by the crowd! If any one went home hungry...it was their mistake!
So many hunting stories were shared from previous hunts as was the hopes for the upcoming season.
So Andy stay in touch, even though you missed the fest, perhaps we can hook up during the season and you can hunt over some of the blocks that was in the pool.
