35HP Go Devil on a 16ft Grizzly?

I'm still exploring motor options for my 16ft Tracker Grizzly and was wondering if the 35 Hp Go Devil Surface Drive would work on this boat? I'm now torn between the new Go Devil and a new 50 HP Merc. 2 stroke. I need the best of both worlds. I have about a 11/2 mile ride in open river water then have to negotiate shallows and possible underwater obstacles. What kind of speeds can be achieved with the Go Devil surface Drive?.......Thanks.

how wide is your boat? what is the transom height. I am pretty sure it would work. if you only have to go 1.5 miles you are set. mine runs right at 30 mph on a 18x48 that is extremely heavy with one man. with two men it drops to the 24-25mph range. full load close to 22.

Kris....I have the 16 x 48 model. If your getting those kind of speeds with an 18, I ought to be in good shape with mine. What brand is yours? Is your boat specifically made for a mud motor. I understand the bottom of the boat plays a big part in the performance. Mine isn't perfectly flat but comes to a very slight v. But I would say it's more on the flat side than the v side if that makes sense.

I have a 35HP go devil on a 17x54MV Griz(heavy boat). Two hunters and gear 26mph, 3 and gear 24mph, 4 and gear 22 mph. Five hunters packing lite 21mph...once it got up on plane!

I talked to a Go Devil Rep and felt the engine is too big (weight) for my boat and the speed would be too slow because I need more surface area. The boat's weight and cargo needs to be spread out more for a surface drive to give maximum performance. So it looks like I'll go with a 50HP 2 stroke Merc. Thanks guys for your imput.
