5200 Tacky after 3 days ... Panic?

Usesd 5200 on the grass rail project Monday evening. Today (Thursday) it's still a little tacky. Is it time to panic?

I think the product info says it should skim over in 48 hours and fully cure in a week.

Today, I spray painted over the rails and 5200, and put the boat back in a heated tent in the garage to cure more.

Temp in there now is about 56 degrees.

Think the temp needs to be higher to get a good cure?

Thanks for any thoughts you care to share.

I would not panic unless you want to use the boat this weekend. 56 degrees is ok may take a few more days till it starts to really set up.

Regular 5200 should only be used for under water for attaching something for ever. And at that I would use the FAST CURE 5200. The regular takes weeks to cure 100%. 4200 Fast Cure is the best for installing all things that might need to be replaced in the future. For painting and you should wait for not to be tack free.

The material cures with water from the air. If you painted it that makes it a lot harder for water to get in there to cure it - that is why people doing production work use 4200 or 5200 fast cure - so they don't have to wait. It will take a longer time to cure under the paint, but I think it still will - eventually.

If I'm trying to rush something with 5200, I'll put it in the sun and spray water on it (before painting).

Thanks for the tips.

I cranked up the heat in the tent. Hoping that helps. If it never cures, guess I'll try removing it in the spring and re-doing with epoxy.

In the meantime it's good enough I think to try taking out the boat next week and maybe salvaging the hunting season

It will cure eventually for sure. If it is mechanically fastened and you aren't going to break it loose using it, just use it.

Yep, it's mechanically attached as well, so sounds like it should be fine. Thanks for all the helpful input.

As mentioned, 5200 is a moisture cured urethane. Spraying it with a little water before and after application will help it cure. Also mentioned, it takes a really long time for it to fully cure.

In that case, I think I will try to spray a mist of water on it too. Thanks.

Temp in the tent is now about 70 degrees.
