91 MPH last night on Plum Island

It blew like so hard last night on Plum Island. We are still with no power but glad to be in one piece. I have not seen it blow like that in a long time. We had houses in the area with blown out windows, roofing materials every where and the beach breached in one spot out front on the island. It was really bad. Thank God the tides were not big ones and this was all rain instead of snow or ice then it would have been even worse. Glad to see some the sun this morning. Hope everyone else along the east coast survived as well as us. Hank

Hey Hank,

Glad you guys are OK. We lost power at 9:30 last night, still out now. Based on the damage I saw this morning, I doubt we will have power back up today. We have a 40 foot spruce down in the front yard from our neighbor's yard. About 3-4 trees took out power lines and poles up the street from us. Snapped one pole in half. The waves were crashing on the road over by Back Beach in Rockport. Pigeon Cove was a torrent. I've been through several hurricanes in my lifetime, but the winds last night were some of the worst I have seen and heard. Nasty!

I'm glad you're OK Hank....sorry to hear about the problems from the storm. Oh well, looks like your will have to start painting again!! :)

Keith

thanks Ryan
Nate glad to hear that you made out ok. That was one of the worsed I have seen in a long time. We have trees and poles down all over the place too. Mike L has a 30 inch oak tree across his 28' mako in the yard. Lots of damage. Tendercrop has three pols down on the road and the dairy farmer to the north lost half the roof of his stantion barn. Mary took a ride to the front of the island and she said that the road is covered in sand and you can not even see the pavement. The Coast Guard and the commercial boats in NBPT had to move up in the river to get away from the brunt of the storm it was so strong on Joppa flats and Newburyport harbor. The boats were all up by Mike's house in the river. Nate if you need anything let me know.
Keith your right but the bad part is that all my stuff I just finished painting and need to cut out some more birds :)

Schellinger lowboy with a 15hp outboard and a tricked out prop circling the island.....

Glad you are all safe Hank..........man that is scary. Looks like Mr. Ed looked out for everyone. See you soon.

My best to you all

Wow!

I heard it was gusting up to 125mph on Mt. Washington!

We didn't get a ton of wind, but man the rain was heavy, and the rivers are HIGH!

I saw the post and thought maybe you had turned Skeeter loose in the car...

That's some nasty stuff to be sure. We're glad you made it through.

Steve must be the boat because I tried that with my BBSB and could not do it. Then again it could be the prop. ha ha ha ha
Willy, thanks again Mr Ed was a huge help. Now we are hearing 2 days for power so I need to run the boat out to the camp and get the generator so we can save all the meat in the freezer. See you in a few weeks.
Brian that sure is fast on top of Mt Washington glad we only had what we had. Glad to hear the RI faired out ok.

I saw the post and thought maybe you had turned Skeeter loose in the car...

That's some nasty stuff to be sure. We're glad you made it through. HA HA HA H HAHA no Skeeter is not driving on the island that fast. Not if I have anything to say about it. My concern is the 17' with the 90hp that is going to be my concern. I have to find out how to governer that motor before he starts running. Hope things are still going well as expected for you two. Prayers are there for you. I'll tell Skeeter you said hi. Hank

Glad you are ok, try to stay warm.

My brother & sisters over in PA were expecting 1-2' depending on elevation. Havent heard from them yet, but it looks like it is still snowing there, with a chance of snow the next 3 days.

AHad some 40+ last night, with snow, but due to warm two days past, it is not sticking to everything--however, drifting like crazy across north south roads---Last wind like that, Hank, was a short blast last year, around new year's evening..Best thing to do with power out is a road trip to a motel!!
Hope you all get cleared out real soon.
see you in a couple of weeks

Glad to hear you are ok....When I lived in Gold Beach, OR those types of winds this time of year were called Winter Storms, Where I grew up in Kentucky they were called "Find a Hole" the tornado is close, and now I live in Louisiana I believe they consider that a catagory 1 Hurricane...The best part is that you made it through and were able to write down your experience...

Hope all is well,

Kristan

Hey Hank,

What size generator do you have? I may need to get one for our place today/tonight. Our neighbor has waist deep water in their basement. I have not looked in ours yet, but just called Erica and asked her to look. I think we are going to lose most of our food in the fridge and freezer.

I'll take some photos of the damage up near us. Unbelievable. Mostly ash and old pine trees that came down. I am just hoping that we don't get water in the cellar.

Nate

I have two. One at the house is really old and matter a fact I'm leaving now to go home and see if I can get it running. If I can't I have to run to Woodbridge and get the camp generator. They both are small only run a few things at a time on them. I'll keep you posted if I get them running and I can help you let me know. I'll talk to you later. Call me on the cell. Heading out now. Ya Mary has more reports of damage in the area. Talk to you later. Good luck. Hank

Lights are back on here in Gloucester. There were actually two trees that did most of the damage; a huge red oak just up the street, and an even bigger locust tree up in Rockport. Both were rotted from the inside and not long for this world. All the downed pines that I have seen look as though they were twisted and then snapped.

I'll have fun cutting up that spruce tomorrow. This weekend would be a good time to look for washed-up dock foam and old buoys. The tide and sea were ripping today. The Dry Salvages and breakwall were one continuous line of white this morning.

Glad to be home!

Nate

That's sounds like a pretty nasty storm. But on the bright side...................how many dekes do you think you can cut out of those downed power poles? When God gives you lemons.............trade 'em for blocks!
