A cold day chasing puddlers 11 pics long

It was cold, 15 degrees as we launched and warmed up to 20 degrees today with a wind of 10 mph. As the day went by the decoys were stuck in the ice. But the set still work nicely. I hope you enjoy the hunt. Me, River, and Mark a friend of mine.

The first pic is of a hen wigeon after landing on the ice.

Next is a pic of a hen wigeon landing in the set.

This pic is a hen mallard flying by the set. The reason for the hen pics is because if they were drakes I would have my gun instead of my camera. HeHe

This pic is of Mark in his boat breaking the ice and retriving a goose for me.

Next pic is of a few wigeon coming into the set.

Next this drake wigeon checking things out before we shot him.

Next, River coming in with a drake mallard. Have to at least have one of her.

Ok, now two drakes and two hens flaring as Mark gets ready to shoot.

Thanks Gary. Heard the Wigeon and Mallards finally showed up Friday......
I had to work the last 5 days, and I KNEW it was going to happen.Hope I can launch the boat somewhere Tuesday......

Great pics as always Gary, thanks!

I feel ya Mike. I haven't had a chance to get out lately and now it seems everything will be all locked up by tomorrow morning! They're talking about -12 for tuesday morning with a high of 12! Crazy for Spokane BEFORE Thanksgiving! I'm sure we'll still get one of those classic warm south winds to open up a few places and they'll still be a few good hunts left!

What great shots, Gary. That had to be fun.-------Not the cold part but taking those shots of such beautiful ducks. Well done.

Sweet photos Gary! Yep it looks cold where you're at...bustin' ice though can make for a great day. BTW, It was 74/61 here for opening day.

Gary:

Great photos. I wish we had some of that cold. We had a couple of nights in the mid 20's, but not it's 45 and raining again. That means no hunt this afternoon, and the need to bail out the boat tomorrow :(

Forgive my dog ignorance, but is River a standard poodle? I ask because my wife and I both have significant dog allergies, and poodles have been suggested as one of the breeds least likely to trigger them. I'd love to have a lab or springer, but know from experience that I simply cannot live with one. Even a 45 minute car ride with my buddy's lab has me starting to wheeze.

I've wondered whether it was possible to find a standard poodle from good hunting stock, and it looks like yours may be one.

Thanks.

Jeff

Great Job on pictures Gary I always look forward to Al
Hanson's & your posts you guys can always put a smile on my face. Thanks Joe

Nice Photo essay Gary!

Wish we had wigeon like that here is Jersey. Usually get a few when it's gets colder. No such weather yet..........almost 65 today, but that cold should arrive east by the weekend. Looks like a great shoot!
