A couple more days out.

The boys and I made it out late yesterday with the idea of going after some Greaters we had been seeing in one spot. Due to a forecast of up to 30 mph winds we decided to go late and not set up until we were sure things were going to be safe on the water. We were able to get 3 limits of Greaters and two widgeon in a couple hours. The wind never picked up as forcasted but it did blow out of the south for a bit producing some good one foot wind waves.

After running rescues on these waters for almost 30 years it always pays to listen to the weather guy, he may not always be right but he knows a lot more than I do !!

Three nice drakes and a widgeon that came into the long lines

Today we hunted n a snow storm most of the day, DHBP member Mike Faught joined the boys and I, even though it was pretty wet and snowy we managed 4 cans, 1 redhead 9 bluebills and a couple ring necks, It was a great day with some good company.

Hope all of you have a great rest of the season, we have one week left then it's time to catch up on some sleep and chores around the place!!

Fred, great shot of those "Greaters" head on.....all in all.....pics of some pretty birds!

Wonderful Fred, like the picture of the scaup big heavy bills compared to the wigeon. Looks Like the team got it right.

We are going to have to call you smiling Fred. Looks like you had some good times. That boat camo appears to be holding up well. I'd bet it holds the snow. Great pictures.

Glad to see you with all that success. Some great looking ducks. I wish you well during this last week, Fred.

Great photos! I'm sure envious of those Cans. Can't seem to get in the right place at the right time. I don't think we even get any greater scaup in our state.

Way to go.....a little jealous here but i will get over it by next season...lol

Interesting picture of the bills on those greaters.....the black on the end of their bills is different on each bird.....the end of the bill on the left bird is all black, like you would see on a redhead (minus the white).

Fred,
Thanks again. Best way to end my season I can think of.
Looking in to Taxis for that one........

Dang Fred....that looks like it was a great time....though cold....very cold.....

Hope you have a great last week....

Dani

Nice bird Mike! Sounds to me like your season ended much, much better than we might have guessed, between the banded honker and trophy can, you have to be one happy guy. Considering how tough these last several weeks have been, that's going out with bang!

Tod, We never really freeze up on the big water bit a long cold snap or real windy conditions will kill off the hunting real fast, we have actually been in a real slump on birds,

I can't wait to see my gas bill this month!!, I have put about 3500 miles on my truck in the last 3 weeks, most all of it scouting.

That is hard to appreciate, but I know that is the case. You have birds, but youstill have to find them. 3500 miles is a lot of miles and made a lot of memories.
