A few found pictures

I was going through some things today and realized I had a bunch of pictures I hadn’t posted from this past duck season. Not a bad thing. Finding pictures that bring back great memories of a previous winter chasing ducks in the marsh. We had Whistlers

and more Whistlers

And the Whistler habitat was really quite gorgeous

And Mike did a good job of hiding in the flowers. He’s not too macho to be intimidated by a bunch of flowers

We had a few new decoys out in the spread this year

And the decoys did their job

But we had other visitors than just Whistlers and Mike had to give Steve’s first decoy a good talking to because there was just too much of this going on

so a talkin he gave him

That seemed to do the job too

My Black Dog and Mike got ferried around and they didn’t seem terribly pleased about it,

but that’s just the price they pay for getting to hunt pretty places with sunrises like this

And there were other neat places to see gorgeous sunrises

Which had great results as well

Soon we’ll be out chasing wood ducks and teal again….soooooooooooon

Wow, what a picture!
It is good to see that your mind is already in the "mode" like most of us here. I sure enjoyed this, Dani. Thank you.

Dani, WOW what a bunch of great pictures. Love them all, I'd say my fave is near the end the spread with the sunrise colors reflected in the water, but then again they are all awesome.

Thanks guys. Steve sure does take some pretty pictures. Al, I am in the mood for ducks, and getting even more so, but I still have other adventures to have before then :)

Hank, the two redheads were carved by Steve Sutton. The hen scaup is a Jason Russell as I recall. I'm sure I'll be very quickly re-educated if I have the carvers wrong, but that's what I recall.

Correct on the Jason Russell hen Scaup with the clam in her mouth.....
That Redhead pair was done by Mark Vanderhoof.....
The pair of sleeper Bluebills were done many years ago by Mark Schupp....burlap over foam...
The Tufted Duck is by Yukon Mike.....

Some more pictures from a salt marsh hunt. Steve made a truly gorgeous shot on a drake bluebill that day. One of the most impressive shots I’ve ever seen. It was my Black Dog’s turn to retrieve so off he went after the not quite dead drake. It was a looooooong retrieve that needed some direction, but he did very well.

Not the most traditional of carries but it sure got the job done

An end of the day shot with a better shot of one of our newest decoys in the rig.

Is the flamingo used as a confidence decoy and distance marker or is that a Florida joke that I don't know about? I do like your photos and use of a kayak. I hope to someday trust my Chesapeake as a passenger in my kayak.

There's another FL duck hunter who is quite the pintail hunter. He's a very good pintail hunter too, but he tends to believe that they won't come into anything except pintail decoys. Which sparked debate back and forth about how when Steve hunted the same areas that the dude currently hunts, he and his buddy would set up giant pelican decoys (back when pintail could be shot 10 a day) and they'd essentially body boot behind them. That it doesn't matter what the species is, as long as you're in the right spot and you don't scare the pintail off, you can harvest pintail. Debate went back and forth about the best way to hunt pintail and it was eventually stated, with great sarcasm on the pintail hunters part, why don't we just use flamingo decoys then? Which of course tickled us to no end....that flamingo is the first of what will be I'm sure a nice spread of flamingos and when the pintails have migrated back, we're going to go pintail hunting amongst a large rig of flamingos....

Boz....it is very nice to hunt in warm and pretty places like FL offers, though that morning that Steve made such an outstanding shot, it was COLD....maybe not cold by way up north standards since there was no ice or snow but ....IMO.....there shoulda been icebergs it was so cold....I would agree though it sure is purdy here....

Absolutely beautiful pictures of ducks, some mighty fine decoys and memories that will last a lifetime. Thanks for sharing.

I added a "confidence" decoy to my spread last year on a whim and as a joke to the rest of the guys I hunt with. I picked up a Great Blue Heron. My son and I have named him Bob. He now joins us on all of our adventures.

It is more for laughs than anything, but hasn't seemed to slow anything down or sped anything up either.

I retired my Heron confidence decoy when I set it up in an area apparently already staked by another heron. Lots of posturing and noise as it tried to run my decoy off. Sure blew my cover. Still makes me smile. He spends his days looking looking through the railing at the neighbor's whale watchers now.

The flamingo made me chuckle. Then again I stick these Swan decoys out for the same reason.
