When I got home on Tuesday, I noticed a hen mallard decoy in the garage on the floor. My assumption was that John Bourbon had dropped the decoy off earlier in the day when my wife was home.
I had bought several LL Bean Decoys at DU events over the years. I always thought they would benefit from more height. Several years ago I took off the keels and put a 3/4" bottom board on. John has been reshaping and repainting a couple of them for me a year.
In October of 2010 my boat was in the front yard and someone took a hen mallard that John had painted out of my boat. I was pissed. I kept my eye on Craigs list and even posted on front porch forum with a reward for its return.
After a while, I gave up hope.
As I picked the decoy up off the garage floor to admire it, I was reminded of the stolen decoy and shook my head in disgust at how someone could take the decoy out of the boat. John always signs and dates his work and usually has a message on the bottom. I flipped the decoy over to see what John had to say. "LL Bean RR for Frank Kehoe
2010"!! Huh? What?! I called my wife to find out where she got the decoy. "it was in the middle of the front lawn (not a big space) when I got back from the store and I brought it into the garage" she informed me.
So after being MIA for over a year, some one returned the stolen decoy. How cool is that?
