I cant believe I'm saying it, but I took a little break from decoys the last few weeks. Actually, I haven't had time to carve in a month, so it really wasn't a break. I don't know what you call it actually, but...OK, I'm rambling....
Anyhow, long story short, my mom has a loom and makes rugs that she sells at craft shows. About a year ago, Michele started making potholders that my mom would sell at the shows for her. Well, I got kind of jealous of my mom handing Michele twenty or thirty bucks after a craft show for her potholders so I started thinking on something I could make that would be a good craft show item. The criteria was as follows:
Something to utilize the skills and tools I already have.
Something useful.
Made out of wood, cause I like using my branding iron.
Doesn't take up much space.
Less than $10
I thought about little decoys, toys, picture frames, all kind of stuff. I seemed at a dead end. Then, my mother in law was up helping Michele and making some chicken and dumplings. I noticed her using a wooden fork to take the meat off the chicken carcass, and BINGO! Off to the shop, did out a hunk of maple, and fire up the bandsaw. I'm pretty happy with the results, and it's fun cause the shapes and sizes are endless!
Now, back to decoys!
