A little deer action. NDR

Nice buck and a great story. I had the opportunity to help a friend track and hang a ten pointer on Sunday. It is prime time for bucks.

Folks like to make fun of The Best Days Of The Rut in the November issue of Field & Stream. I don't bow hunt anymore, but am in the woods almost everyday and from what I see their advice on days is pretty spot on. After a pheasant hunt yesterday afternoon on state land a huge 8 point walked out in front of my car. May have to consider a crossbow in the future.

Jode - better start lookin' for a extra Game Frig you will need it... as you have already proven.

Thanks Ken, I am glad you enjoyed it!

Tom I appreciate the comment. Now if i can get your aging down pat ill be set! LOL....(no cooler for me, but I am looking for a bigger shop fridge like Vince Suggested.)

Paul, taking the shot is just the beginning of the fun (and work, when you process your own) the woodsmanship is something many hunters today lack.

Vince, NjJlegalized crossbows several years ago. At first I was dead set against it9 but since have come around) long story short is this, if you are a good bowhunter you'll do fine with a crossbow. If you expect them to be a rifle you will lose deer.............

Jode - I went through the crossbow fight in PA, and now NY. I used one in Ohio as they have had a crossbow season a longtime (also NO antler restrictions). They are not a Rifle, nor a unfair advantage as they are Loud and deer jump the string. I still hunt, and have never shot a deer out of tree stand in my life. The ugly truth is many many deer are lost in bow season no matter what kind of bow. Tain't the kind of bow, but the hunter. When I started bow hunting in the 60's we used recurves and cedar shaft arrows. I never went to a compound as by that time I was totally addicted to waterfowling. Now that I'm Older, and retired a crossbow would be OK, but dang they are expensive!

Vince, good points on the overall lack of woodsmanship of the average bow hunter=bad arrow placement and poor tracking skills result in lost deer.

Thanks Mike! I appreciate it!

Vince+ RL I agree.

Recurve, compound, crossbow all deadly in the right hands. Too many want to pick up a bow for the sake of the long season (here in NJ we bow hunt for 5 months) but not put in the time.

I had an interesting chat with a new (crossbow) hunter last year who shot and lost 3 bucks with a month ( I found two half rotted) When I inquired as to shot angle, distance etc He replied "I don't know I just put the crosshairs on his chest and pulled the trigeer"

Sad for the animal and for our image as hunters. Hopefully the good outweigh the bad.

Jode - My goodness how can that man call himself a Hunter, and how the heck can he sleep at night? Losing game is so very depressing, but 3 deer is totally unacceptable on every level. He should stick to golf...
