A Never Ending Blow

Here on the East End of Long Island were used to wind, but its getting out of hand this year. it blew a gale all fall and beat us up during the Fall Run. God we fished in some awful days out there. Its killing me with the Sea Ducks. I took a ride down to the Point this afternoon and it was a steady steam of Eider and Scoter flying past the point. We haven't been able to get to the birds in three weeks. The one good day we had, I had a party of Goose Hunters out to the pit. It was a good Goose shoot limiting out with 10 Honks, but it would have been nice to get a lick in at the Eiders. This is the best year we've ever had on them, our total is at 40 so far. Unless the NW and NE let up and let us get at them I'm at a stand still. Our layout sit in her slip and I havent even though about towing her out. I'm really hope for some light SW in January , thats when it really gets good. Its funny what goes around comes around. When I was gunnig Black Ducks on the bay I lived for a winter like this and hated the SW. Oh Well!

Jack,
this is the magic wind on this side of the sound. Gets all those inland ponds frozen right off and moves the birds our way.
Have a great Christmas from all the guys over in Noank!

Jack,

Hope the weather starts to cooperate for you.

I just got back from the MA coastal zone and was amazed by the numbers of sea ducks. There were literally tens, if not hundreds, of thousands of scoter and old squaw in Nantucket Sound. Plenty of eider near the coast. So, there are still lots of birds north of you.

Had a neat morning shoot on Monday. My 7.5 yo Chessie got to retrieve his first sea duck -- a beautiful drake old squaw -- as well as a baldpate and a brace of broadbill.

Wishing you and Gus a productive January.

Thanks for the report. Weve got 1000's of Eider and Scoter right in front of me I just cant get to them. Gus was doing great on the Sea Ducks but is having his problem with the Geese. Merry Christmas to all!
