A "Profile" Suggestion

While many people are hesitant to list personal info in their profiles on the internet, including hometown, I would suggest that members should at least list the state (or Province) they live in.
Knowing at least what state you are located in will make it easier to recommend boats, dealers, suppliers, etc...
Just a suggestion.
 
Carl, great idea, I had the same thought but didn't want upset the few. Nice in classified so I don't have to respond and find out the motor is on the west coast.
Well done, guys step up...
 
I'm really not sure, but some guys simply wont put their hometown.
Internet paranoia is all I can come up with.

I am reluctant to post information about myself because in my line of work I see an increasing number of people harmed by identity theft. Two companies I do business with told me my data was mined along with countless numbers of other customers. It really is just too bad. I wish I could be more neighborly.
 
Out of curiosity, how could someone rob your identity if you simply list your home state in your profile?
Its not like you are listing street address or even town?
And you don't even have a name or email address associated with the profile.
So how could they like this site to any of your identity?

If I spend enough time writing on this site and telling enough information about myself, then someone will be able to incorporate all this information and figure out who I am. Then that someone might decide it is worth their while to target me.
