A series of bad decisions...

As we get ready to go out on open water, just a reminder of the risks involved...

Such a tragedy, and your thread title says it all. Some times it is hard to fathom the reasoning behind the choices made. Yet I go back and reflect on some of the "smooth moves" I've made in the past and now choose not to judge. Makes me wish that someone, any one, had been around that could have lent a helping hand to this family when they so sorely needed one.

Such a sad story, really feel bad for the mom. We do need to be careful out there. Have fun BUT cover your butt.

I am trying to imagine what kind of 13 1/2 foot kayak will safely carry 5 people even in calm water. I hope this is a reporting error.

A series of bad decisions indeed.

This is making headlines nationwide.
5 people (2 toddlers, a 9 year old and 2 adults) in one open top kayak.
What in the world were they thinking???

Awful. Just awful.

A four mile paddle in an open kayak on Lake Superior by one person alone is risky let alone this.

Only the mother survived.

What kind of life will she have? Did she really "survive" or will she be a prisoner of that experience for the rest of her life.

Awful. Just awful.

May the Lord Jesus be with her in the depths of grieve.

This is a very sad story. I'm not going to make a judgement on the people involved, they have paid the ultimate price at this point. Maybe they didn't recognize the danger, even if they should have. They wouldn't have done it if they thought that they and their children could die. I'm sorry for them and their extended families.
