a wisconsin duckboats and decoy carver get together

Hey Chuck, give me an idea of where further east you mean. It kind of looks like we are looking at Green Bay/Appleton righht now, based on the numbers of respondents from GB, Appleton, and NE WI. Plus, I think I can get some of the decoy carvers from the Green Bay Duck Hunters to help promote a waterfowl day/swap meet/duckboats.net get together.

If that is too far/too far west for you, maybe we could set sequential get togethers in Michigan and in WI, a month apart so duck hunting/decoy carving/ducl boat junkies like me, who are semi-retired can attend both. I am assuming wisconsinites can cross the border into MI, assuming our papers are in order. If we swear that none of us are Buckeyes, will you guys let us in on a temporary visa?????????

I'd hate to miss an opportunity to see some of your canvas decoys and ask questions in person...........

How's Muskegon?

Honestly I've been wanting the last few year to make it over to Lacrosse in August when a bunch of guys get together there...you might want to combine efforts with those guys

What location are people thinking? High Cliff State park east of Appleton, or Bay Shore County park northeast of Green Bay??? Any other locations of interest?

Green Bay Duck Hunters meet at Barkhausen wildlife sanctuary and interpretive center. Not sure how booked up it is in the summer, or if an informal group like ours can use it for a social gathering/swap meet/informal seminar/bend the truth fest.

But the other two suggestions for either Green Bay or Appleton are great.

The more attendance we can get from both duckboats.net members and non-member duck hunters interested in duck boats, decoys, etc., the better. What location (Appleton, Green Bay, or "other") would bring the highest attendance by NE WI waterfowlers and other duckboats members who are willing to drive???

Is Chuck's idea of doing something jointly with the LaCrosse group something we should consider? Maybe doing a NE WI get together in July (with an invitation for the LaCrosse group to come to the Fox Valley) and atttending theirs in August?

Barkhausen wildlife sanctuary would be great. I was just thinking if people wanted to spend the night they would have the option of camping. Or is it just going to be a one day get together?

Guys,

Just for what its worth; Even a one day event should have or be close to overnight accomodations (camping is good). I drive 3 hours to attend the Lacrosse get together and always stay over at least one night and usually two nights. I'd much rather drive in on a Friday evening and be refreshed for a Saturday event.

Okay Green Bay and Appleton resources......what sites in Appleton and Green Bay would have camping on site, be close to motel(s), have a shelter(s) in the event of rain, have power to the shelter for carving or cooking, and would allow a bunch of duck hunters on the grounds????????????

Hey Mike, I must have missed this, thanks for posting this.

I was going to suggest Barkhausen as well given it's history with ducks, proximety to the bay and several launches if guys wanted to bring boats, then I saw you mentioned that.

another suggestion that I had was Bay Beach, they have several outdoor pavillions they rent, kids would be free to run amuck at the facility were most rides cost a whopping 50 cents. heck, they even have Elvis's roller coaster the Zippin Pippin

as far as camping goes, around Green Bay proper there is not much short of driving about 30 minutes, but there are several economical hotels/motels, Pete McMiller can attest to the Bay Family Restaurant Hotel on the west side of Green Bay (dog friendly) I am sure if there are guys that want camping we can look into that further.

Bay Shore park on the East shore of the Bay would be nice as well, but I am not sure if they have a pavillion or not.

Not familiar with High cliff if they have camping facilities, guys from the Appleton area maybe know more about that.

Ryan, you get around (alot from what I hear)...any ideas on some locations? Navarino?

Mike, are you looking to just get together shoot the shit, play with decoys/calls or are you looking to actually carve, cut some wood type thought? Either way, i am in.

I always like to shoot the poop, as you don't have to lead it, and I seldom miss.........not much for table fare, but there is no limit and no closed season.......

I am willing to let the attendees drive the agenda. Was hoping (on my part) for some boats, some foam and wooden decoys for show and tell, maybe some demos by decoy carvers, painters, or boat guys, a potluck with grilling, a glass of beer or wine, perhaps some swapping and bartering of waterfowling stuff, and a chance for us to meet each other in person to set some future get togethers based on shared interests..

I am selfishly looking to find some potential hunting partners so I don't have to hunt alone every day, but I am also looking to find some members who want to get together for some decoy carving and painting sessions....

Mike

The Brown County Fairgrounds sounds like a good place to have the get together. I don't know how busy it gets during the summer, but August 14 thru 18 is the Fair, so those dates are out.
