Account Deleted at User's Request

Since the site's inception we have allowed people in the industry to share their goods and services. With no paid advertisers this has created an atmosphere where people can feel free to speak highly or poorly of any particular supplier of waterfowling goods and services,as well as giving someone a chance to build their business without being told "sponsor up or shut up". From day one I have encouraged honest participation and involvement from suppliers as they are typically serious waterfowlers with interesting things to say, in exchange they would get exposure that leads to more business. Some vendors have embraced this becoming active participants and site supporters, while others are not interested in spending the time to become one of the community to get such benefits.

In case you are wondering about the Lake Bonneville post it was removed after the author requested his account be deleted from the site. Further, for everyone's benefit, below is the note I sent him when he contacted me about the responses he was getting. The only reason I post this is to inform others how those percieved as spamming are typically treated and what the community expectations are.

Jim

The purpose of your post appears to be promotion of Lake Bonneville and your own website. There isn't much content other than that and the community of duckboats.net does not like participation by an individual whose primary purpose appears to be promoting goods or services. If you want to be a part of the community you need to engage in conversations, share stories and information, and become one of the community. Periodic posts that seem to advertise have never been well received at duckboats. Don't take it personally, just become part of the community through genuine participation or you can expect such treatment.

sounds like a fair request on your part, probably not much of a loss

but then of course - I mostly read -- don't post a lot - and the only thing I have to sell is maybe my soul some day for a mountable bull can

lol

So I don't know Jim from diddley...but I do disagree here. Throw spam and eggs at me if you want but I call it how I see it. I don't know his history of posting here...however in the post that has now been deleted it appeared the said company is now under new ownership and has created a new boat of which he purchased one and was enthusiastic about spreading the news. Now, no one will see this news and know what has happened at _____ boat company and that in fact it has new ownership that is making a new model. And as the popularity of ____ water hunting is seeing more acceptability especially in Minnesota where a few members might be interested in ____ boat company introducing a new model...won't happen now.

Ron...I can't disagree with you...other than ... I would NEVER throw my SPAM or eggs at you... my mother taught me better...

Ron, To address your question about posting history, I checked his history of posting before I posted, I take this sort of thing seriously. I read every word he wrote on the forum before I made my decision, I consider this a bare minimum. He had a history of posts that were one-liners advertising in the same format as the post we are discussing. I counted one post that was not a one-liner and that post did not alter my opinion.

As far as your other concerns, I have no real opinion.

Tod, you are NEVER 'with me' nor do I care if you are or not. Trying to draw me into your bs business is as lame and immature as what started this whole mess.

Thanks Eric for the follow-up on the situation, I was looking for the catsup/Lake Bonneville thread and couldn't find it.

Since I was one of several that called him out, I will note that this did not come out of the blue. He was called out for spamming in his very first post, several posts earlier (not by me). He had a warning, many posts ago. He followed up that first spam post with several of the same type with no change in tone. He typically got no responses or a single response from his posts and when he got responses did not follow up on them - that is a sign to me that someone is just hitting the forum to spam.

You did the unpleasant work of managing the situation and thanks. If we only could have a ketchup on spam and catsup vs ketchup subforum...

I'm disappointed that this guy was repping Lake Bonneville, they are local to me and they make a quality product. I hope that they didn't have anything directly to do with this guy. Honestly advertising like this, a crappy attempt at "viral marketing", leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I really appreciate the tone of these forums and I thank the mods for doing a good job of keeping it that way.

Pete, it seems that you must care if you have to point out that I'm never with you, but hey I'll keep that in mind.

As far as the mess... Spam is always a mess - that jelly in the can, the grease on the knife and the fond that sticks so readily to the pan.

I'm sorry to see the spam thread has vanished. By which I refer to the discussions of Specially Prepared American Meat. Seems a shame that a product with an honorable history of feeding hungry free people under siege by Naziism (I have read some true paens of praise by Brits receiving the blue cans in the dark days of V-2s overhead) has come to have its name associated with annoying internet proceedings. Even Spam needs love...its generic equivilent,WalMart luncheon meat, is survivable when you're retired and on a tight budget. The duck hunting site may not be the place to advocate for the name Spam reclaiming its honor from internet wrong doing, but am I the only one who hates to see misuse of the language like this?

You've just reminded me of the Monty Python skit and song of tribute to Spam, Spam, Spam. :-)

I 100% agree with you Bill... the reduced fat (flavor) variety does not deserve the respect as the original!

Reduced fat spam is like caffeine-free soda or non-alcoholic beer. Why bother?

Ron,

Pretty stringent rules on this site... I don't ever mention things I now find on CL or EB. With the purpose of trying to help out several members who were interested in some vintage duck boats that I located on "selling" sites. I had my post remove and scolded for posting it. Since I've been married for 48 years, I am easily "trained", and I just accept the rules here. I don't even roll my eyes anymore!

Thanks for your email on the AA. I will work on it this winter. Needs an impeller and some tweaking, (navigation lights, electrical panel/fused, and interior lights. I owe you for this one!!

AND................. Speaking of ketchup..... Does anyone know where I can get BROOKS TANGY KETCHUP? I use to eat this when I was a kid... Is this stuff even made anymore?? Man, it was great on eggs!
