Here is what I am trying to do with the bracket and tiller on the mini mud motor. Due to where the motor will be on the Hoefgen, the tiller handle will need to be long. This will make the motor to long to put into the bed of the pick-up (I have a fiberglass cap on the bed)
The first two pictures show the bracket from the side, one picture without the tiller tube in it, the other with the tiller tube. The perfect situation would be to just rotate the tube in the bracket so that it runs next to the drive tube carrying the driveshaft. I know that I can put some kind of a pin through it but I am concerned that the plastic bracket will not be sturdy enough for a multiple "pin in, pin out", cycles and will eventually break. I was thinking that if I filled the tiller tube with steel rod and then tapped into the rod, this may work. Thoughts?
The next two pictures show the top of the bracket. AS you can see, there is already a set screw hole for when this was used for its real purpose for a weed whacker. I don't think this will be enough to hold the tiller handle in place and will need something a bit beefier.
The idea that Rick had to just put a pin in or thumb screw would work. It would be better for me if I could just rotate the handle as it would be one less thing to have to carry and keep track of. What won't work is to loosen the 4 screws that tighten the clamp down. When fully tight, there is just enough friction to turn the tube in the bracket. Since I have the time before next season, I thought I would try to make it the way I would like it to be. Hope this makes sense. Looking for some creativity.
