Yesterday, just by chance, I happened to call Tim to see if he was going to be duck hunting today. He told me that he and a buddy were heading towards the Mexican border to hunt Coues deer. Then in his calm manner said, "I thought our duck season changed to open on Thursday, the 23rd." Good grief, it does!

If you can stop it from happening, don't get any older. Ever since I moved down here the duck season has always opened on a Wednesday. But then again now that Tim has retired, there have been changes.

I wonder what it would have been like this morning to probably have been the only guy in the state to open up our duck season a day early?

Well for one thing, no one would have beat you to your hunting spot. :>) :>) (I know how you have to fight the crowds out there.)

I've got as close as packing up the boat the night before and luckily had a friend who mentioned the zone I was planning on hunting had closed the week before. Another time I spent a whole day scouting a zone that had closed. I hate zones.

Al,
Had a similar situation occur to me, from not refreshing myself on the current regs.
I was duck hunting a local marsh one morning when some low flying geese approached. I didn’t even blow my call as they were on a path which would bring them right overhead, if not into, my spread. I anxiously awaited as they continued their approach. Just as they were about into range, a thought occurred to me. Why had no one else on the marsh not taken a pop at them? There are usually plenty of sky busters to fill that duty.
I began to have second thoughts and did NOT pull the trigger. Checking the regulations later, I found out that the DNR had made that marsh a closed area for geese. Boy am I glad I made the decision to not shoot.
Ever since I TRY to make it a point to read the regs, just before EVERY season.

From our office window I just happened to glance down into the Rio Grande valley. The river is shrouded in a blanket of fog. For a second there, I could almost see that Mexican drake backpedaling just as he was about to land in my spread. Sure glad I am waiting until tomorrow!

I stomped around a public forest for about four hours hunting squirrels a couple years ago. On the drive home I asked my wife when the Auburn game was on. Her answer....Yesterday. Somehow I'd lost a day and was hunting on Sunday. This is a no no here in CT.
