Rick,

Are you talking about Apoxie or epoxy? Two completely different things. When you say "finish coat" it leads me to think you are referring to epoxy. If you are talking epoxy then you have your answer above about the finish coat needing to be painted for UV protection.

What type of paint did you mix into the epoxy? Oil based? Latex based? epoxy based? just curious

You really shouldn't add anything to epoxy except for additives manufactured especially for epoxy, such as fumed silica, microballoons, microfibers, talcum powder, etc. Why do you want to add paint to it if you have to paint over it anyway?

Rick, to color epoxy, you can either use tinted resin, or you can add powered pigment (Tempera paint, grade school)

As Dave said there are powdered pigment that you can add. When I built my snowgoose my thought was that I'd add some to the topcoat so when I chipped the paint, it wouldn't show as much. I ordered powdered pigment from RAKA, but I couldn't get a blend that was even close to a natural color (colors were day-glo almost) . So I dropped the plan. If there was an OD pigment, I'd do it in a heartbeat.
