advice from old gun enthusiasts

Lee: the gun is a J.P.Clabraugh & Bro's cira 1865 the barrels were pitted badly L bought two barrels from numrich arm 261/2" long. I sawed off the barels on my gun 3" up from the chambers end and need to fined info on dia to bore out chamers for resleeving, then I will have to rebore chambers re camfer rim and back bore one of the barrels as the new barrels both are mod. I can not fined anyone welling to give info on what size to bore the chambers out to fror inserting sleved barrels I'll just have to make that desision myself> to have barrels resleeved by a gun smith would run about $2,000. I plan on using this hammer gun for wildfowling. if I have to buy the reamer to rechamber and back bore rew chokes they should run aboyt $200/300 cheper than 2 grand. plan on shooting 12ga 1oz shot, If you have good decoys a good set up and not out just to kill you can get birds with any shot I use 7 1/2 7/8oz. sporting clay load in my joseph lang hammer gun for pheasents and had good luck. Perry, you really are adventurous. Please show us the finished results. Are the 7/8oz load for clay the Midway USA loads especially made for them by Federal?

lee i shot only one partridge with it. charlie was witness to my poor shooting with it the only time i took it ducking. i cut some feathers but didnt bring any ducks down. the chambers were 2 1/2" so i had them lengthend to 2 3/4. from the things ive read on this procedure its more of a feel better thing for me shooting 2 3/4" then of real function as ive seen more material that states that slightly larger shells bare no adverse affects to the tubes, then the opposite. i also decided to leave the forcing cones alone as that was a little more expensive of a procedure with the gunsmith i chose. my main focus was to get the gun up to shooting speed so i could get used to shooting it before duck season. im so excited for this afternoon. sunday im going to be at the range and hope to put the first hundred rounds through.

i hope to in the not so distant future begin a custom fox waterfowl gun. i'll be looking for a sterlingworth "waterfowl" model with 30"+ barrels, or an AE grade with the same length. i'll be working on an engraving pattern my self and will have the stock custom made. the stock im looking for will be similar to that of CE grade or higher with the ebony forend tip and will have a full pistol grip stock with 22 lines per inch checker. once the stock is fitted however i will carve it and checker it myself, then send it back for final finish.

ok enough of that dream, haha.

All I can say is that it is a fine looking gun.

Eddie is a good shot, better than most I've met...with his 870.

I'll let you read between the lines... :-)

this is true with my 870 and as it turns out with my dads super nova, although that gun is pounds heavier then the remington. this sunday will be fun with that sxs. i think im more excited to shoot that at clays then go turkey hunting.

ps charlie let me know when your not busy on a weekend and i'll see if i can round up a bird for you.
