Al, I found your snow geese

I doubt they got many out of that flock to decoy. :)
The flocks were showing up on radar this morning in SD. I wasn't able to get to where those flocks are but did see several eagles flying around while I was out and about. A good sign that spring is here.. even if it won't warm up.

Not too far away from where we used to be. Thanks for that video, Mark. Those geese are so intelligent. I wonder how many were shot in that field where the video was taken?
Tim, it is good to hear that spring is now arriving in your neck of the woods. I am really elated for the amount of snow that came this year to the area to help provide the sloughs and lakes to maintain a higher level.

Mark,

Great video. I haven't seen a flight like that since I was a boy. Very cool. Back in the day and long before Habitat Flats, Swan Lake refuge and Sumner, MO was synonymous with goose hunting. We would take off from work on Friday afternoon and drive the 6 hour trip to Sumner. I can't even tell you the name of the motel we stayed at but there was a bar and they were hunter/pet friendly as I'm sure the whole town was. As a matter of fact I don't remember an evening where the only person NOT in camo was the bartender. We'd hit the sack around 10:00pm and the alarm would go off at 3:30am. Droggy headed we'd head to the bar for a breakfast that beats the imagination then pile into our trucks and head for a field where all there was was several metal pits buried in the field surrounded by decoys. We'd hand a gentleman at the gate our reservations and he'd assign hunters to their pits for the mornings hunt. The only way you knew you were in the right field was an old faded sign hangin off a gate that said GooseHaven. I'll tel you it's a sight to behold when the sun starts to rise and what you think is a rain cloud in the distance that goes from horizon to horizon and the moment you realize that's not a cloud but Canada Geese headed your way, well it's a sight I'll never forget!

I had the opportunity to hunt the snow goose reserve at Cap Tourmente near Quebec several times (lottery) - where they take you out with a horse drawn mud sled. We have hours of footage like that on my dad's VHS video shelf in the basement back home in Montreal. Brings back great memories. Thanks!

The report was no geese decoyed from that large flock but they did kill a little ore than 80 for three days and 6 guns out of that field. Almost all of the flights were adult birds so they had their work cut out for them.

They estimated about 1 million birds about a mile away on a water roost. Not sure how you estimate a million birds, i just say there was a s#*t ton.... :)
