Alabama hunt with Team Thomas

I got a chance tonight to finally go through quite a few of the photos from the 3 days spent in Alabama.

Thursday was the first day out, just Eric and I.

Friday we went to a different spot...

Shah got to retrieve a little.

Then the highlight of the trip was hunting with Jeff Bowen, Eric and Thomas on Saturday morning, Thomas got a few shots off.

And Thomas got some practice with his calls. He has a talent with the calls, and it was a pleasure to see and hear him blow them.

Shah got to get wet a few times.

You see, Thomas is still working on his first duck. We were all thinking it would be nice if the first duck hit the water before us, but like many times in the blind, some things get pushed back to the next hunt.

Soon Thomas, you'll be posing for photos with your own first duck. Thomas is a fine young man, advanced in his skills, and full of passion.

The guys used their boats on Saturday. They work well on the Alabama water.

It's a good thing duck season is here, I need the sleep!

Great pics. Can't wait to see the other pics. Sure hope we can do it again in a few years.

Geez, I guess "the Guv" has got you working too hard these days! I know exactly how you feel.

Great pics Hitch.

Hitch,

Looks like you were lucky to have Thomas along. Doesn't look like dad was much company for you with him passing out all the time!!! hehehe

P.S. I enjoyed the hunt. Hope to be able to do it again sometime.

That looked like a great time. Seeing Thomas out there makes me eager for Saturday morning. I really like those boats too. Hmmmm all I want for christmas is a table saw, and the plans for a boat.

I'll tell you what it is; it's time for Eric to take some vacation!!! I know people like you Eric, where I work that is. It's time to go duck hunting! I seen all those ducks you have!! You have your assignment for the waterfowl season - burn some hours :-)

I'm ready to head back now. After all, to watch Thomas shoot his first duck would be a treat.

This kid wants his first duck real bad guys! I don't think I know anyone more passionate about duck hunting.

After missing on the second or third duck, about the same score as I had at the moment, anyway, we all look over at Thomas, just a little overwhelmed by circumstances. He was unhappy with his shots, although I must say I don't know why.

Your first duck will come soon Thomas. Tell dad to take you hunting!!

The ringneck that drifted around the back of the blind pushed Thomas over the edge. His little double barell just doesn't hold enough rounds. His moment will come soon enough and the jubilation will erase that memories. Besides, I suspect when he does get his first duck someone else's eyes won't be dry.

That's passion for waterfowling! Keep him on the water, it'll come. Heck I still haven't killed a turkey after 7 years of seriously trying.

I'll have to second that one. He has two passions in life, duck hunting and talking about duck hunting. He sure does come in handy though before season, whenever I see him out and about I'll snag him up to help with goose blinds or stringing up decoys. He's a better helper than most of the guys my age. I am willing to bet he'll get his first duck by the end of the season, maybe this weekend will be the day with this cold weather coming down.

Hope you're getting Thomas out to shoot crossing shots on clays.I guess you have checked him for dominate eye.Once he gets the concept of lead ,his young hand/eye coordination will take over.

That's great. Thanks for the pictures. Meg wants to shoot next year and I think I'll let her sluice them on the water if she likes.I didn't start shooting until I was 11 or 12, and I sure didn't care how I made stuff dead!
