Is there a large snow/blue goose population in Escambia and Monroe counties? I don't recall ever seeing a special season there. You're close enough to enjoy that.

Eric

They have had that in there for at least the last 5 years. Not sure why, I have never talked to anyone who took advantage of it.

Special Teal Season: September 6- September 21

Wow! We have a "Special Teal season" the same dates in northern Illinois. Are Teal going to be spread out that widely? I don't think weather is going to be able to do both of us a favor (at the same time).

Yes, they will be that spread out!
We should start seeing teal any day now if they aren't already here. And they will keep coming through in waves until early October.
By opening day of regular season in late November, they are all gone farther south except a few stragglers.
Teal season on the coast is usually feast or famine. Get three or four days of south winds and they wills stack up, easy limits within 30 minutes. It can be flat out nuts.
Get a north wind and they all disappear overnight, all headed out over the Gulf to Mexico, south TX and south FL, and you wont fire a shot.

One of these days I will get a purple gallinule in full plumage....

RAIL, PURPLE GALLINULE & COMMON MOORHENS:
September 6 – September 21
November 28 – January 20
  • Note: At time of printing, federal guidelines were not final. See Alabama Waterfowl Hunting Guide.
  • 15 a day — 15 in possession
  • Shooting Hours: One-half hour before Sunrise to Sunset

Boz,
We get lots of opportunity, but it all depends on if the birds come on down to the coast. Last few years have been tough, but I'm always optimistic this time of year!!
