Alpha-Gal

Fascinating program this morning on The People's Pharmacy regarding the discovery of the Alpha-Gal allergy to red meat and it's apparent catalyst - the bite of the Lone Star Tick. Many areas of the country have seen explosions of ticks in recent years and in fact Wisconsin has now been identified as new territory for the Lone Star Tick. It's bad enough to have to worry about Lymes but now you have to be concerned with never being able to eat red meat again - argh!

Pete, are you saying it crawled all the way from Texas to get to Badgerland?

Well, Al, it appears as though it has been expanding it's range. Whether it crawled or was carried - I don't like the implications. Next thing you know, we'll have Cottonmouths up here - No thank you.

I sure do agree with you, Pete. I remember when Lymes became something to be reckoned with in Wisconsin. This one does not sound good at all.

A very good friend of my has it. He was visiting Tennessee for business and got bit by a tick. Few months later anytime he ate meat he got sick, he went in and was diagnosed with it. Not good I don't know how he can do it. Forunately out here we don't have lymes yet and I sure hope we don't get this one anytime soon.
