You have a 7 ft cockpit opening. Depending on your height you could clamp a cross member across the cockpit to set up a dog area behind your head.

Interesting....I am less than 6 feet. Raised platform even with the deck? A box of some sort for storage.....

Lots of good advice here. In an effort to keep weight down, I might suggest going with the pre cut cedar fence pickets from your local lumber yard or home improvement store. They are thinner than standard dimensional lumber and should serve the purpose well. I'd fasten them to the wooden cleats that your going to use with staples from an air nailer. Be careful not to let the staples go through the cleats and into / through the hull !
