Aluminum boat project

I purchased this boat with the idea of converting to a duck hunting rig. I am looking for suggestions on possible changes in the interior. The flooring and bow deck need to be replaced because of rot. Is plywood (marine?) the best option; how about aluminum- I do not know what is below the boards yet- hopefully later today.

Obviously a paint job is needed. Again suggestions would be appreciated.

Being a newbie to a project like this I have a ton of questions but thought I would start here. Hopefully everyone can put up with some very rookie questions.

Thanks.

i am not very good at posting up pics but i can email you pics of what i did too my boat also i can tell u it hrlped me alot too do the layout on paper with graph paper
anothern thing that helped alot was too write out a specific list of what you want in or on the boat ie deek storage, heaters dog ramp, lights, ext
i went all aluminum on mine alot more $$ but light weight and maintainance free.

I used exterior grade ply on the floor of my deep-V and coated it with spar varnish. It has held up well but is stored inside. I agree with making a list and drawing it out on paper. Start with the things that don't have a lot of options or choices because the other stuff will evolve as you work on the boat and your ideas WILL CHANGE as you go.

Great new project! Good luck.

I have to redo the floor in my aluminum boat and I'm going to use old road signs cut to fit. Cheap I say. I didn't steal them either, I went to a scrap yard and bought them.

Good luck on your project.

I got all the flooring removed today. Quite the messy project, enough rot in the wood for a few plants to grow. The foam in the bow and the middle look good, but I am assuming I should replace the foam between the livewells and in the stern compartments. Any one have a good source for new foam?

Any pictures would be great. Also any things that you may have done differently.

The plywood I pulled up did not look like marine plywood or treated at all. What are the thoughts if I were to use wood? I like the idea of aluminum. How thick would it need to be to provide support? How about diamond plate- obviously not cheap either.

I though about the road signs, just wasn't sure where to get them.

I think my next step is to figure out what I would like for changes in wiring. Should be easier while I have the boat open. There was a trolling motor I removed which I will rewire as a 12v plug (as it was originally) for the bow. I have yet to check the bilge or aerator pumps.

I will sit down and make a list of what I would like- a great idea of a place to start.

Thanks for the replies.
