I always knew that when looking at the moon rising or setting it seemed to do so in a quick manner. This morning with my 170-500 Sigma zoom set up on my Canon and that on the tripod, I could watch through the view finder how quickly it was setting. The first shot (brightest one) was taken around 3AM and the final shots just before 6AM. It had to be around a minute or two so that when I took the first shot of the moon touching the mountainous landscape of the Magdalena range to the last shot just before it set. Sure was exciting to watch.

I have walked on top of these ridges and there are some huge Ponderosa pines there. Where the moon was setting is roughly at 10,500 ft of elevation.

Neat pics. I had the thought to do the same thing the other day. They said that it's the closest full moon that we've had in 18 years.

Al,

You need to break down and get a small high quality 6"-8" dob style reflector....help your late night ruminations...if you get that bug though you might give up duck hunting...oh my goodness HAHA!!

Nice shots of the moon.

Al,
it sure looked big this morning here. Must be something where you are right now.
Thanks for the great shots. Those distant mountains are, "calling" for a good walking over....
