Ammo for upcoming season

Just a heads up. If you are particular about the shells you put through you gun, and if you need more, you might want to consider looking for shells now before all the waterfowl specials begin to arrive. I?ve been looking for pistol ammo for some time (9mm and .22LR) and there is none to be found anywhere around here. I went to buy some shotgun shells for the upcoming season and had to go to 3 stores to buy only 3 boxes. I use Kent shells which are not a specialty brand by any stretch but to find 3? 4 shot shells was next to impossible. If you shoot 2 3/4? shells, or want #2 shot or bigger, there are shells available.

Just putting this out there. Here?s a pic of he shelves at a local Fleet Farm

Good point. Supplies are low, esp pistol ammo. I'm in good shape, but wish I had a case of 9mm. I bought a 9mm earlier in the summer and the store had zero ammo even for a new purchase. I was able to get what I needed between the LGS and online, but it is a rough situation.

Should be good for ducks, what I really need to do is shoot up a bunch of my old second tier (and third tier) ammo.

Been buying 22 all along since the last issue, I'm pretty stocked there.

If you don't mind mail order for the shotgun ammo, try Rogers. I think they stock Kent. It seems there is not one box of 380/9mm/45ACP to be had at the moment, at least where I shop.

This is part of the reason I now purchase all my ammunition online. Living in NY only a few retailers will ship ammo to my front door, but I can always get what I want and at a good price. Just purchased a case of duck loads for the upcoming season.

I plan on deer hunting in NC this year with my Benelli Nova. I bought 4 boxes of Federal 12 gauge 2 ?" Vital Shok 1600 fps slugs earlier this summer. That's 20 shells. Also bought a Carlsons rifled choke tube. Shot seven shells today at a range to get a feel for the slugs. That choke works very well. Unfortunately it was an indoor range with a maximum of 25 yards. Only shot seven shells because now I can't find any of these slugs online anywhere. Figured I better save what I have for the fall in case I don't find any more.

I hope there is a resupply of shells for duck hunters who need the amo. And it would be nice to get some more slugs to zero in my gun at 50 and 100 yards.

Such is life in the time of Covid, social unrest, presidential election and now, Hurricane Laura.

2020 is a strange year.

One of my buddies at work is a firearms fanatic and saw the 9mm "shortage" coming. Told me some stats on how often it happens and prices go up during that time.

Luckily in a smaller town there is plenty of shells and bullets everywhere. There is a waterfowl specialist shop 2 counties over that stocks only Kent shells. Could go buy 2 cases right now, if I had the extra money.
Need me to ship you some?

Second the online shopping for ammo, especially in CT. Lucky gunner is who I used for centerfire, I like the herters #3s for my gun so I just order cases from cabelas pro shops now. Strangely enough, last year they stopped labeling the shells as steel on the shell itself. The box says steel. Formerly the shell also said steel, like most ammo. I actually called ENCON to alert them and they told my they just carry magnets, and to take one with me if I was ever in doubt.

Don't understand the whole ammo hording thing, didn't 12-14 years ago and still don't.

I've got about a 1/2 case of 12g Fiochhi steel left and almost a full case of 20g steel. Looks like that may last the rest of my waterfowling career.....

That said, Rogers seems to have plenty of shells & ammo, my inbox lights up once a day with their sales announcements.

Plenty of shells for waterfowl at online stores and specials galore. Pistol / rifle ammo daily online alerts coming thru from different sellers with availability. Just have to get tuned in to alerts from different sellers. Price has gone up on pistol ammo. For pistol /ar ammo you have to search outside your normal Rogers, Presleys. Basspro etc. Plenty of it out there.

I was just at Cabela's in PdC yesterday... their shelves are FULL.

5.56 was only 5 units per customer

That was OK.. I got 7.62x51

My buddy bought a handgun called over said he went to 8 stores and there is no .38 special no 357 magnum. I gave him what he needed but i doubt the low stock will bounce back. I shoot handguns alot everyone i know buying up all the ammo wont shoot it they just ?need it?.

Northern Delaware gun shops are sold out with signs up saying they have no idea when they will be resupplied. I spoke with the counter person at Winters . Since April when the riots started people have been buying everything. Talk of defunding police has people scared.

I buy before I need it not when I need it, getting harder to find in Western NY. Primers and powder are impossible to find right now.
