An odd sort of hunt

Been real slow this season at least up around where I am hunting. Since opener I've been out a few times and maybe shot 5-6 ducks. Is what it is.

Anyway. I went out for a mid morning to mid afternoon hunt today. Thought I would see if the recent weather we've had might have pushed some birds down. I know my buddies out west have been seeing ducks finally so I thought I would give it a try..

I saw one duck and it was screaming. Winds were gusting to 40 mph which made hunting interesting. Had a hard time keeping the boat in it's spot as not only was the wind high, that water was up about 1.5 feet compared to a couple of days ago. Hard to believe but it was true.

So, as I am sitting in the boat with lots of time on my hand, I start looking around and I see a shiny chain around a tree. What the heck could this be. I get out of the boat and walk over and see an old ammo box chained up in a tree. Odd I thought. Naturally I have to open it up to see what the heck is inside. I peer in and see that I found another Geo Cache stash. I was the first to come across this one as it isn't in an easy one to find as it requires a boat and a long boat ride. I thought about leaving a fired shell (from a previous hunt) but though better of it. According to the note in the box, I was suppose to say how I found it. I thought the phrase "dumb luck" would not be to pleasing to the folks who left it so I put down nothing.

I get back to the boat and not much time later I hear some pretty loud jets. These aren't commercial not private as they are LOUD. I look up and see a F-16 go buzzing overhead. 15 seconds later another one goes overhead and then another and another. Fighter jets don t fly around here ever. Last time was 9/11. Not long after the jets were buzzing around, a couple of Blackhawk helicopters buzz over the swamp. Now I'm thinking what is going on.

Weird day out. No ducks. Will try again tomorrow morning and the rest of the weekend.

It is nice to hear someone else is having a weird fall. Mine is almost too crazy to believe. I'll leave it at that for now. Weather is part of it but I think the stars are out of alignment.

I signed the notebook with the pertinent info but didn't have much to leave. Empty shell casings, empty water, COuld have left a regulations book I guess.

Didn't put much thought into it to be truthful.

Thought you'd said "I put down nothing" but you did sign in and how you got there. I had never heard of geocache and so the question.

Hey Wiz -

You by chance didn't know a Leo Olson from Rochester MN did you. He had a shoe store whose name I can't recall. He was out on Armistice Day around the same area as you. He and a couple of his buddies made it back. A couple of others didn't.

Leo's son is my Dad's best buddy. When Leo was around I heard the story of his ordeal more than once. I wish I had had the opportunity to hear it many more times as it was so engaging.

Thought I would ask.

We had neighbors in LaCrosse named Olson who had twin boys, not identical. I don't recall what their father did.
