Well. I went and stirred the put and picked up my first Chessie. Meet 7 week old Emma. She is a light deadgrass pup and will hopefully become my duck retriever while playing back up in the upland woods to my little white Setter dog. Everyone seems to like Emma, well everyone except for my Setter Abby. It didn't take her long to figure out what the deal was. Based on the parentage, little Emma might fill out to around 70-75lbs. Really looking forward to working with her. Right now, just car rides, socialization, some fun play and getting her to know her name. We are also working on sit to come in side, sit to go outside and sit to eat.

Hope you guys enjoy. We are having fun!

Congratulations! My first some 35 plus years ago was a little deadgrass who was an amazing dog/retriever.
You didn't happen to get her from Ken in Carney's Point did you? We've gotten two dogs from him in the past eight years and both are the most well adjusted, sweet, retrieving machines you'd ever imagine!
Good luck. There's nothing lie a Chesapeake and the bond you two will have. Not to mention how she'll protect your house and family......best dogs ever!

Thanks guys. Lots of stories here got me interested in the breed. I talked to a few guys from here as well. And really got sold. I have spent the last 15 years with versatile dogs. I finally convinced myself it was ok to have an upland dog and a retriever.

She is fitting right in here and seems to be adjusting well to the family. We have done a lot of introductions to the neighbors. I have gotten a number of compliments on how calm she is. Hopefully, we can maintain the calm. Having three kids that are excited to have a new puppy can make that difficult at times.

I really looking forward to the upcoming training season. We will have fun for sure. I will try to share more pics and videos along the way.

Congratulations on the Chessie pup! They are great dogs! My Chessie is 6 years old now and still enjoy having him as my shadow everyday! You will soon learn that you don't own the Chessie......the Chessie owns you.... I always heard that from other people that owned one before I got mine, didn't believe them, but I do now. Chessies can be very stubborn and knuckle-headed, don't let it get to you. Once you start to bond with your dog and begin to "understand" their behavior you will get hours of enjoyment out of your Chessie daily.......

Ditto what everyone else said. I've had six since 1977 and wouldn't trade for 2 dogs of any other breed. Now, pay attention! There will come a time when you will be convinced she (he) is the dumbest thing God ever streached hide over. Be patient, one day it will all just click and you'll be more proud of her than your own kids. They have no equal.
