Anchoring in rocks

You guys are great!!
Shawn/Tony those images made the concept clear.
Scott, your diagram explained the principle.
Thanks again , John

Rebar wreck anchor with the zip tie quick release. The rebar is great and cheap where it bends out to get you free just bend back on the boat. If it gets really stuck you break the zip ties and it pulls up. Ive used these anchors from the offshore wrecks and reefs in jersey bottom fishin to the Rhode island coast.

Shawn, great anchor. Some one did a lot of engineering on it. We used down guide anchor [phone company anchor to stabilize poles], very heavy. Cut into lengths and welded rebar to it. Rebar would bend and pull off.
My buddy fished wrecks all the time and only lost one.

In the last couple years I've been hunting Rip-Rap and rock piles or walls. I am using Navy anchors and had to cut off three last season. I can get them out fine if I can see them but when it's snotty and the wind is blowing hard it's difficult to free them.
Just curious what others are using, Thanks John

For those who don't want to make their own... I have one of these. Easy to back out a stuck anchor. The ring just slides down the shank when you reverse the direction of pull.

I have one of those too. Damn, do swear at it a lot! Like many duck hunters, I often throw my anchor and chain to get it in just the right place. With that one, the ring can slide down the shank and won't set when thrown. Not that I don't have a dozen other anchors to use, so I guess I like swearing at that one.

I think you just like swearing...or more to the point, you like to talk about how much you swear...

I swear that I'd rather swear than talk about swearing.

Are you hunting breakwalls like we did up here? I've lost an anchor or two on that wall. Still using the Danforths as they work in the other places we hunt. I've got quite a bit of heavy chain ahead of them and usually get the anchor loose by going right above it and shaking the heck out of the chain.

How did you do on the lake this year?

Use a stout rubber band to keep the ring in place until you need to pull it to the other end. A little trick I learned from friends in Bermuda.

Now I swear at you for withholding this until now!!!! :)

Yes it's the same setup John.
I think I'll make a couple small wreck anchors just for the wall hunting.
Not a good year but improved as everything started to freeze up the
last 3 weeks. Shot my first W/WScoter on the last friday of the season.
I had to shovel the ramp twice that day in and out!! Visibility was about
zero most of the time I was out but wind was strong and nobody else
was on the lake. The next day the Coast Guard was called to look for a
hunter in similar conditions. He was fine but someone saw the trailer
and could not see where he had put in. My friends were betting it was me.
I still like telling the story of the last day we hunted together.
Maybe I can get up your way next season, John

I also tell people about that hunt. Had the exact same thing happen a year or two later, so now I know when the weather is starting to tell me to leave. It would be nice to have you up for another hunt, give me a shout next fall.

We had a decent season. Lots of sea ducks around, more ww scoter than I ever remember seeing on this part of the lake. We actually took my layout boat out on the lake one day and had a fast shoot. Kind of has me hoping for a light SE breeze again!
