This was a blast and I got to meet three or more DBHP guys for the first time who came out. The Bozrah Rod and Gun was nice enough to have us and so the Trout pond was full of decoys by 11 am and the dogs were at it soon after. Many Boats in attendance including the strongest wood garvey I have ever seen. Nice work Dave.
Too all the others who were there it was great to see you all and your birds.
Free trap rounds were a nice way to ease into the fall shooting season to come.
Paul and Rich did a great job with much help from others and CWF should be thanked for the work and great time.

A large turnout was great to see and it will not take much for this event to grow even bigger next year with the good time had by all who attended.

Bob ,

It was a pleasure to meet you as well as Scott Farris , i really appreciate you taking the time to give me the grand tour of your Kara , it is definatley a sweet boat that i will add to my list of boats to build . Scott nice job on the Buffys they looked great out there on the pond . It was nice to have an event like this close to home , it kind of gets the juices flowing for the upcoming season . I must thank all of the organizers for pulling it all together in such a short period of time and hope it will grow in the coming years . Bob we need to get Andrew pulled away from his work and get a phesant hunt up at your / club this year . I look forward to that also . Thanks again for the compliments on the Cackler .

Ed ,

Sorry i did not get an opportunity to introduce myself , you were busting clays pretty good there , Hopefully we will meet next year . Take care

Wow... sorry I missed that... those deeks are great... that Garvey was nice too ;)

Just returned from Ed Gagne world (Vermont). Trained the AWS on scented tennis balls under apple trees, getting ready for grouse season. Dog has a good nose, but need more work on the basics.

That looked like a blast Bob, thanks for posting.

Andrew

Just wanted to say thanks for all those that supported this event. For something with about three weeks of planning, I think it went quite well. Congratulations to Pet Revicki (black duck), Larry Appleton (teal), and Scott Besade (merganser). NICE DECOYS! When I wasn't sloshing around the pond, and had a chance to speak with both carvers and attendees, it seemed everyone enjoyed themselves and had a good time. That was certainly encouraging should we decide to do this agin next year. We'll keep everyone posted.

A,

It was a great time , There was a great group of guys there , and not to mention the dekes , they were cool , nice job on those !!! I think i have been swayed from my original plans to build the Devlin pole boat to a " modified Kara " Bob showed his off and i am really impressed with the weight ,the room inside the cockpit, and the simplicity of the build. I think i will be ordering the plans today after some more " Dave Morton Thinking " . Sounds like pip is coming along . Talk to you soon

Dave

Rich,

Thank you for all your effort is setting up and executing the show. It came off really well and I hope CWA decides to run it again. I certainly had a great time although we really needed a bunch of boats out on the pond making wakes so we could see how the decoys really rode the seas.

Dave, Ed, Mike it was good meeting you guys, BobB, BillE PeteR it was great seeing you guys again. Bob, sorry John didn't win another raffle prize at the end, he was into it and it would have been a blast to hear you explain to him that he couldn't take those plastics back home with you since you had donated them to get rid of them. Hope the goose plate went over well at home. I'm sure its on display with the rest of the fine china.

Scott

dave which one were you at the shoot? that way i'll know who to look for next year.

i know i proposed this to rich but for next year i think there should be enough decoys to have a few different catagories, say goose/swan, puddle and diver. there sure were plenty of gorgeous decoys in every flavor.

i loved the idea that someone brought up about a duckboat "show" for next year especially now that i have my sculler which will be under going major surgery after this season to be my ultimate river gunboat.

a few DU banquets in my area do skeet shoots and the team with the best score gets raffle tickets, maybe a trap shoot with the best scores getting raffle tickets?

and im already planing my decoy rig to bring down for next year, what a great event to kickoff duck season

eddie

Rich,
Thank you and the CWA crew for doing all the leg work. No event gets done without a whole bunch of effort before and after, that most folks don't see.
I thought it was a huge hit with all there.
I agree with the idea of a Goose/Diver/Puddler class since the number of birds there would support it if the guys do it again.
I think the rest was perfect. Nice and simple. Folks could come and go and enjoy what they saw.
I showed the pictures at the Groton Club I belong to. I had to cook Sun. breakfast and so I ran the laptop slideshow on the front table. Everyone asked about the shorebirds.

Bob, The three classes would be neat. We had no idea the response would be what it was. When this first got going, we figured that we might have 10 or 20 birds, at most. We never figured that there would be 80 birds floating in the pond! If anyone out there has any ideas to make this better, please e-mail me (richchmiel@sbcglobal.net). One of the things that has already come up . . . get the birds out of the water and onto tables after the voting. That way, people could look at them up close as well. I thought of that Saturday, but our time frame was somewhat limited.
The shorebirds are part of a rig I carved for hunting during the early season on the coastal marshes. I put them on a nearby mudflat. It's fun to watch the shorebirds decoy (imagine what that must have been like 100 years ago!) and the little guys running around give motion to the rig.

Ed ,

My brother and i were the ones there sitting at the picnic bench with your buddy you drove there with , i had the brown DU hat on with the cackler . Anyways there is always next year . had a great time non the less .

Rich, You guys (Bill, Paul, Rich, and CWA) pulled off a great event and it was a fun day. It was nice to see a good turn out for the event. There where many great decoys floating out in the pond and I think the idea of the classes is a good one. Also it would be nice to maybe have more of a swap or selling of duck hunting gear. It was a great event and my thanks go out to all those involved. It was also nice to meet other carvers and duck hunters and talk decoys and hunting. Bill you are going to love the boat, Bob it was good to talk to you again, Scott keep it up and if you need anything let me know, also Scott B. it is always nice to talk to you and let me know about the black. Ed it was nice meeting you and your buddy and I will send you a email ,the decoys look great. Thanks again Rich and the others involved in putting the event on. Pete R.
