Answer to the large tracks I found at the farm (pics)

If it does turn out to be wolf or wolf/hybrid; my bet is that may be an escaped animal from some one that had it in captivity. You would be amazed at the number of exotic animals that some crazy people own - lions, tigers, bears, etc..... THe laws addressing these things are limited. Quite a sad situation actually! Wild animals are not meant to be pets.
i wouldn't bet on this. I don't think a turn out would make it and end up looking that healthy, unless he was in a civilian area hitting trash cans. People don't want to beleive it, but the mountain lions have roamed across the country (mostly males for now), the coyote has spread across all contigous states, jaguars have jumped the border, collared bears roam 3 or 4 states out of their tagged location. mother nature has instilled in these animals an instinct to expand their range. hell, I can feel Montana tugging at my heart strings as i sit in New Orleans writing this. Some individuals of all species are instilled with the need to strike out on their own and explore, its a great thing, not unlike Brian Rhodes, THE LONE WOLF or was it LONE DRAKE or ONE MAN WOLF PACK? at any rate, my bet is on a MN animal out for a southern stroll.

That's a big animal.

I remember a similar situation when Ilived in NW Minnesota in '90/91. During the summer at the research center I saw a wolf coming acroos the fields. The Red River valley is kind of flat and you can see a long way. My coworker and I watched him for a while. He finally got within 75 yards of us. I had a 75 lb Lab at the time that was much shorter and smaller than wolf we saw. As soon as the wolf caught wind of us it turned and ran unlike any dog I have ever seen. It was truly a wild animal. I talked to one of the wildlfe guys and he said it was a 'brush' wolf, ie coyote. I don't believe him but kept it to myself.

That winter a guy was fox hunter on the ND side of the Red River. He called in a 'big' coyote and shot it. Once he got to it he realized it wasn't a coyote. He reported it to the DNR. For a while they were thinking of charging him for taking an endangered species. As I recall, they didn't end up fining since there had not been any reports of wolves in the area and he turned it in and was cooperative.

Yup Jeff them there is what we have around these parts they are half red wolf and kyote mix ,we getthem in the 90 lb range at times and i tell ya if your in the moutains around here in the night time ya can hear them just dandy....tho we do have the smaller version as well it seems the larger 90lbs are in the moutainous areas where there is more deer to feed them.

I believe the red wolf thought to be extinct range went all the way down thru maine .....

That realy sucks if its a wolf he doesnt get to keep it,,,what does that do ,well if ya shoot one in the future dont tell anyone ,,,,

thats so bogus so now if i has any % wolf he doent get it well there is alot of dna of wolves in a large % of kyotes so they mite as well change the regs to wolf/kyote permit...so the fella can mount his trophy...
