Any Cool Ideas

I'm building a new house and the one wall in the family room will be dedicated to
displaying decoys. The wall is 9'6 wide and 9' high, tongue and groove painted. I've searched every site possible
on shelving to display the decoys but nothings really giving me "that's cool" affect. Anyone have some cool displays
please post it up...Thanks

Wish I had pictures, but this was before phones had the whole camera inside.

Toured a home for sale and the owner was a decoy collector.

What stood out most was his lighting.

I'm in MN and have always been a fan of our rock crop along Superior's North Shore.

If my wall, I'd look at mounting pairs of lag bolts or all thread/etc and epoxying shale shelf's on top the pairs and using an LED track lighting that would allow a "spot light" on each piece.

I've seen this done more often with custom cut fireplace mantels.

You would likely want an expanded wing anchor behind the wall.

[size 4]John,

Years ago, when we put an addition on the house and combined some existing rooms into a "great room", I claimed an 8' 6" X 8' 6" corner for building in some shelves for display.

I designed the shelving to fit the corner and built the entire unit out of mahogany faced plywood, trimmed in solid mahogany (.... the great deal I stumbled into on all that wood & trim is a whole 'nother story). Had the sliding glass panels & tracks made up at a local glass shop, so that really helps in avoiding constant dusting.

Actual space for decoys is 8'6" x 5 1/2', as I devoted the bottom section below the lower shelf to cabinet space. Decoy shelves are all 18" deep.
The shelves are adjustable so that different sized pieces can be accommodated.

Only problem is that there isn't nearly enough room, so the vast majority of my birds are on shelving racks in the basement.

Still, this makes a great place to display special pieces & pictures, recent carvings, or to safely keep carvings that are in the queue waiting to be shipped somewhere else.

Sounds like you have a similar space to work with.
