Any Hammer-gun Hunters?

Mike, here's a source that gets in quality damascus hammer guns on occasion. They tend to sell rather quickly due to their popularity today.

There are some guys here on DHBP that collect & shoot their 8 ga. guns. I can't think of anyone here that has a 4 ga. though. I saw a 4 ga. at one of my local gun shops 2 years ago, but it was a single shot punt-type percussion gun and they were asking $3,500 for it. I would think a double 4 ga. would be pretty spendy today due to their rarity, but it shure would sure be fun to watch someone else shoot :^)

Congrades on your new Grulla, they are very nice guns.

Geoff, that i Hollis is a sweet looking cannon. Where has Lee Slikkers gone? He was into old hammer guns. I think there is a site for those...oldhammerguns,com or something like that.

Yes, Dave Parks is correct that finding a steel barrel English 10 bore hammer gun would be difficult. Actually, it would be very difficult. I won't say impossible, but close. And overall, English 10 bores aren't all that common. Most wildfowlers shot 3 inch 12 bores. When they wanted a big bore, they largely skipped over the 10 bore for the 8 bore. Thinking back, I think I recall seeing more 10 bore pigeon guns than 10 bore wildfowling guns. Also, as Dave pointed out, nearly all English 10s are chambered for 2 7/8. If they are more than that, they are 3 1/4. I call only recall perhaps 2 that were 3 1/2. I had one, a Bonehill made in the early 1950's. If one did find an English ten bore, hammer or hammerless, steel barrels or not, they aren't cheap. Ballpark? I am guessing one would need to start at about $4000.00 for anything worthwhile. While I would NEVER suggest that anyone do it, and don't like extending chambers on any guns, I know of several people who have taken large, heavy 3 inch English 12 bores, and chambered them out to 3 1/2 12's. One fellow is in England, and he sent the gun back to the proof house, and it passed without problems. Worth Mathewson

I have seen them for sale on both australian and english web sites, and for less than you would pay here. My son and I bought a couple of doubles from a shop in australia and it was less hassel than one would think. We are very happy with the out come.
