Anybody else effected by the fiasco at Cabala's?

If you haven't heard, anybody that bought something either through the catalog or in a store on Friday the 16th and paid by debt or charge card, got billed again yesterday. I had bought new waders and a couple other items. Talking with customer service yesterday, they said 32,000 people were affected with an average transaction amount of $300, so Cabala's ended the day with an extra $11,300,000 in their pockets and their customers end the day short.

I noticed the duplicate charge yesterday morning, and called in the afternoon. From a bankers perspective the transaction should have been able to be fixed during the day, as of now it is still not fixed. My understanding is Cabala's and Visa are argue over who is at fault. Customer service said if they fix it electronicly, should only take 24 hours or so, if they have to manually credit the accounts will take several days.

Oh, what fun.

And I do want to thank you Andrew, although I will have to return my free waders for the correct size. Seems when they duplicated the charges they duplicated to sizes also. Once again, Thanks. :>)

I advise the following:

Wait 30 days before calling Cabelas. This gives you plenty of time to see if the wife notices the charge or not. If she does not notice the additional charge or has only a mild reaction to it, then call Cabelas and ask theat the refund be made in merchandise instead of cash.

I was notified of the mistake because I had used a debit "gift card" they tried to debit the amount of the order twice which put me over the limit and the second charge was denied. Someone from CS called me at the office and when I called back the fix was "when we are rebooting our computers and you need to order, just call back later..." Thankfully it was just a gift card and I had spent the balance on my order so there was nothing to lose however that is a pretty poor fix for a publicly traded and respected company.
