Anybody Hunt on eastern lake ontario area????

My in-laws have a house up on lake ontario in Henderson Harbor. We are planning on going up the week of thanks giving and would like to do some duck hunting. What are the conditions like this time of the year? what types of ducks are mainly seen divers or big puddle ducks? Just trying to get some general information about duck hunting up there before we head up any advice would be help full.

Hey Charles -
I hunt Eastern 'Lake O' but on the north side say 20-30 miles from Henderson Harbor. Not sure if the ducking conditions are much different on the other side of the border (and why would they be?). By the end of November, we would hope to see big rafts of 'bills and other divers. There should be some big marsh ducks around at that time - be loaded up and ready to go at first light when they are most gullible. And there seems to always be buffies kicking around to fill in a limit.
For gear, I'd recommend a mix of divers and marsh duck deeks and thick waders and a nice warm coat. If you are hunting on the shore (points are particularly good), you will find that the low water means that the nearest tall cover could be 20 yards or more from the water's edge. Think about bringing a layout blind. I know - sounds crazy but we've found that getting down low and looking like a rock is a good way to go when there is no other cover.
I will be hunting for a three-day weekend the week before "American" Thanksgiving. PM me a couple of days before your hunt, if you like, and I will give you whatever scoop I have.
All the best, good luck, be safe,
Dan
