Looking for pictures of display plaques for turkey fan. My girlfriend got her first turkey so looking to make her plaque for the fan. Any pictures of your past makings would be great thanks in advance !!!

This is one I bought years ago at a Dick's Sporting Goods after a hunt. It is the nicest "production" one I have ever seen, the turkey is burned into the wood and there is a spot for the beard to hang below. Maybe you could build something similar to this and draw, then burn in a turkey design... maybe even a turkey track into the wood?

The design of the plaque itself is basically the same as a napkin holder. A plate of wood in front (your plaque), a plate for the back to hang from (drill a hole on an angle to for a nail), and then a piece of wood at the bottom holding the two together. Distance between the two pieces of wood is about 2 inches, or enough to hold the turkey fan.

As for the fan itself, I have always removed as much meat as possible, then pinned the fan in the open position to a piece of cardboard or wood. Take borax and apply liberally to any exposed meat and let it sit for a few weeks. Once dry, the fan will not move and the borax will preserve any remaining flesh. It wont rot or smell.

I take the shell I shot the bird with and cut the plastic hull away leaving just the brass. I take some hot glue and insert the beard into this. Above it I string the two spurs and display them as well.

Wes, I've done a few. Not to hard and only limited by your imagination.

Here's one I did a few years back, that I don't have anymore.

You could omit the picture frame part of it very easily.

Another nice trick I learned is to save the spent brass from the shell she killed the gobbler with and use that to mount the beard to the plaque.
