Anybody own/shoot a Stoeger?

I purchased 2 Stoeger 2000 for my sons ,Danny cleans his after every hunt and Charlie cleans his about once or twice a season. That said, both guns have fallen apart over the course of 3 seasons. Stocks have become loose and unable to tighten , one gun has the choke tube stuck and CANNOT be removed. Both guns have had the slide pin on the ejection port pop off, never to be found again. They are what they are.....Cheap guns

I also 'had' a model 2000 and had the same problem with the choke tubes. You can't shoot steel through them, mine had to be put in a vise and taken out with a special tool. I put a patternmaster on it and it shot good, for one or two shots. Mine would always jam up and I never had a third shot and I cleaned it constantly.

I bought a stoeger uplander side by side last year and it has become my primary waterfowling gun. Fits great, shoots well and a good price.

The gun is not made by benelli. I had a uplander sxs. It wouldnt fire the second barrel all the time. I thought the hammer was rubbing in the stock. Finally the real problem showed up it wasa crack in the casting of the receiver. I sent it back ,they sent me a new gun. I traded it in on a spartan.(bakal, a russian tank) I shoot the gun a lot. I would not buy another stoegger, the price is lower for a reason. Spend your money on a better gun if you have it, but thats my opionion. John

I have one use it regularly shoots fine had one choke get stuck but that was because it was an early model had do with the finish on the chokes sent everyone back saw given new chokes. They are good beater guns don't clean it that often. They have worked out alot of the problems since their start. Chris

Mine is at the gunsmith now. I had it completey apart to clean real well after last season. Put it back together right before my trip to Ira's place at Habitat Flats and it would only fire the chambered round. Lucky for me Ira's brother Aaron gave me a Browning to use.

I bought the gun used....cheap. I shoot really well with it, which is why I stuck with it. I know that it had a lot of rounds through it when I bought it. I've always had a hard time with the bolt release button.....hard as heck to push. Showed this to the gunsmith and he said that the wear is excessive and that is the problem.

All in all, I'd buy another one for the money. It doubles as a paddle without a care in the world. I'd be sick for a week if I dropped a Benelli or Beretta in the mud.

I have had a M2000 since 2004 or maybe 2005. Good gun for the money. I have yet to have a problem with mine. It does have some "cheap gun" issues like rust in spots under the rib where it meats the receiver, poor fit on some parts, and once in a while not cycling the second shell. There is some info about this issue in the owners manual and it turns out I was not loading and pressing the mag release correctly so it was in cut off mode and only letting one shell be cycled.

A lot of the M2000 cycling issues are due to the shooter not breaking it in as required. Since I don't shoot trap or skeet mine is still below the 500 round break in period four years later.

Like all guns it needs to be maintained after each use. I do a simple break down and spray it down with oil once I get back home.

With all my guns I take the choke tubes out and oil them once I am home.

Like my 870 Rustpress I have used my M2000 as a paddle and a decoy retriever.

If you review a few threads on the shotgunning forum at the Refuge you will find some very detailed posts on the M2000.

If you buy one keep the box and receipt until you have gone through 500 rounds. Get Carlson's extended choke tubes for shooting steel shot.

Sound like the sbe is a better deal with every post. Mine has been in the mud , water, ice, and keeps on working. No gas operation to worry about cleaning and it shoots 3.5s for those extra yards. One thing I cant stand is to go to make a shot and gun malfunction. Could be the shot of a lifetime, you cant afford that. John

I have a 20 gauge Condor I use for doves. I have put 8-10 boxes a year through it for the lasy 6 years. No problems yet.
My buddy has one with auto ejectors that gives him trouble from time to time.

I've got a Stoeger Uplander too, purchased when they first came out close to 15 years ago and it has spent more time in the field with me than any other gun. I've also shot at least 1000 rounds through it in sporting clays and it has always operated flawless. Shoots better for me than either of my SKB's at a small percentage of the cost.

Had a good feeling about it years ago when I took it out of the box and looked down the barrels through the chambers and noted forcing cones that are loooooooong and extremely polished. I knew the thing would pattern before I ever pulled the trigger! The LOP was a little long so shortening it 3/8 of an inch made it fit like a glove. Really like the compact nature of a SxS, even with 28" in a layout boat. Just like you Mike, it's my go to shotgun shows the scars of many, MANY waterfowl hunts. Who would have ever guessed it's the least expensive in the bunch.....

I thought I was screwing up with the magazine button as well in Missouri. Once I bought it to the gunsmith and I showed him my concerns about the wear on the flat piece of metal for the bolt, he confirmed my suspicions. I don't know if the gun gave the previous onwer problems but you can tell it has a lot of miles on it.

For what it's worth, I know more guys that have had problems with the SBEII. Not so much the original SBE. If I decide to upscale, I'd probably go with a Beretta. I loved my Urika 20 ga for upland. Don't know why I sold it.

Your not helping (LOL), my is at the bottom of the Bay right now, and very doubtful I will be able to get it back

General cooridates and I know it over my head, would guess it's about 10-15'.

Trying to come up with some type of rake I can drag behind the boat to see what I can find. Lost my gun (in a none floating case), really nice hunting jacket, game bag, several boxes of shells, lanyard, GPS and spot light. Not a fun morning.

Thanks again for being there Dave.

Oh, and I have a used Carsten for sale.

Ouch at least you are okay!

Pete,

Andrew said he lost his GPS too.......ouch! Lets just say it on the bottom somewhere. Sorry to hear, but at least you're OK

Glad you are alright Andrew. I would hate to lose a good pie maker. Just a sugession depending on water clearity but if you could get one of those under water cameras that the ice fishermen use. Bring a long some empty pop bottles, sting, weights. and grid the search area. Save a lot of time. Another thing some fisherman used under water lights which might help.
