Anyone here from the Columbus Ohio area?

Seems a company in Columbus wants to interview the wife. Could be good for her. Just wondering what the area has to offer.

Not from there, but frequent the area often. Spent the day there yesterday as a matter of fact.

Columbus has about everything, including two Gander Mountains, pretty nice Orvis fly fishing shop, more restaurants than you can shake a fist at, AND a brand new Cabela's!.

Any idea what part of Columbus? Like any other big city, some 'Burbs are a little nicer than others.

I never hunted the area, but I see quite a few late season birds here and there. Some pretty good warm water fishing opportunities nearby.

I'm sure somebody here will offer up a little more.

Bottom line is, except for waterfowl hunting, you could pick a worse place to live...

Jon

Oh, and GOOD LUCK to your wife!

I do not live in Columbus (I'm an hour north) but I have an office in Columbus and my daughter recently accepted a teaching position just south of Columbus.

It is in my opinion the nicest city in the state of Ohio.

Clean, modern and home to The Ohio State University.

Not as much snow as the northeast corner of the state.

Any specific questions drop me a PM.

Thx for the info Jon & John

If this progresses any farther I may have more questions.

Live in Columbus -New Albany/Westerville. Went to school in Columbus -1976-1979. Have been back here since 1992. Having gown up in northeastern Ohio, we love it. Has been a great place to raise our family. Not the most exciting big city, but the goods far outweigh the bad's.
Great golf courses.
Hunting and fishing opportunities around. Waterfowl is okay but not the largest flyway. I hunt pretty much exclusively up in Sandusky Bay marsh which is about 2 hours away. Used to layout in the bay frequently before had access to the marsh.
Hope this helps.

Get down there the last weekend of July (I think it's the weekend of the 27th). In Marengo (just north of Columbus), they're holding a waterfowler's get together called the Waterfowler Bootcamp. It'd be a good way to meet and greet the local waterfowling establishment.

One thing going for it is that it's further from Iowa than your present location. (I had to say it before someone else did, hehe)

The other side of the coin is that it would be a longer drive to Goose Island this year.

ED,
I live 90 miles south in the hill country, i am no fan of the big city but get up that way a few times a year to doctor or shop. You don't have to drive far to live in the burbs, plenty of restaurants and shopping.
Hunting opportunities exist within easy drive especially deer and turkey waterfowling has not been good the last few years i think it is mostly weather related, too warm. Waterfowl better in the north and northeast part of the state,my opinion.
I moved here in '71 and have been happy but wish i had settled farther north and west for bird hunting. From columbus you can be in Canada in about 2 hours.
Good luck .
Bill.

I keep thinking that you will need a new boat Ed. Ohio is different thaqn Illinois......

I have a daughter that lives in the Italian historical district near down town and a son that lives just north in Dublin. Both like the area very much. If you like small town life look at Marysville or Delaware. Very low crime. We've looked at both and are considering relocating to Delaware. Plenty of water in the area.

You may have to drive to Ohio! May have to have a Mideast get together.

Yep...something to think about. If things become promising I'll be watching.
